Bay Bridge shutdown forces detour for Angels

The Bay Bridge was closed down this afternoon after someone reported a suspicious device on an offramp. That wouldn’t seem to be much of a baseball issue, except the Angels were staying in a San Francisco hotel despite playing in Oakland tonight.

This happened early enough in the day that it seems unlikely any players will show up late to the ballpark tonight. But it is a little interesting that a) the Angels prefer to stay in San Fran when they’re playing in Oakland and b) Albert Pujols is still showing up early to the park, yet the .223-hitting Josh Hamilton doesn’t feel the need.

Where would you stay if you had the choice? I mean, seriously.

The Claremont is beautiful, but the food options are, uh, is the Claremont.

I’d rather live in Oakland. SF is overrun by Silicon Valley so-and-so’s.

        You’re an idiot.

All the professional sports teams stay in San Francisco when they play in Oakland. Nothing new here.

I hope they left enough time for the BART noobs to figure out how to get exact fare tickets.

  4. amadorjon - Jul 26, 2013 at 7:19 PM

they all stay over there, even the players……where would you stay in Oakland? The Ritz Carlton?

    • amadorjon - Jul 26, 2013 at 7:20 PM

      even the A’s players I meant…sorry

  5. jarathen - Jul 26, 2013 at 7:23 PM

I imagine part of Hamilton’s later start is his sore ankle.

Shhh…stop making valid points. It gets in the way of Pouliot being a dick for being a dick’s sake.

    • forsch31 - Jul 27, 2013 at 10:11 AM

So Albert’s been faking it all year? Who knew?

      • jarathen - Jul 27, 2013 at 2:01 PM

Pujols’ injury wasn’t going to get better witha few hours of rest. It’s all manage the pain or rest for a looong time.

“a) the Angels prefer to stay in San Fran when they’re playing in Oakland ”

not unusual. san francisco (no one says san fran) is a 25 minute drive from the coliseum. the coliseum is not in a desirable part of oakland.

I was in Oakland 1 time. It reminded me of Detroit, only worse.

    • hojo20 - Jul 26, 2013 at 10:12 PM

i figured all players stay in san fran over oaktown.

I was watching a FOX game of the week from Oakland a couple of years ago and even the blimp was panning shots of San Francisco instead of the east bay.

All teams stay in SF and not Oakland.

  9. johnnysoda - Jul 26, 2013 at 8:18 PM

Geez, Josh Hamilton is hitting .223? I knew he was playing lousy, but I would not have guessed in a million years his BA is that low.

At this rate, he’ll be giving A-Rod a run for his money as the worst contract ever.

    • ezthinking - Jul 27, 2013 at 1:07 AM

Carl Crawford would like a run at the title.

  10. seabronco - Jul 26, 2013 at 8:48 PM

Who in their right mind would stay in Oakland instead of San Fran? No one

    • brewcrewfan54 - Jul 26, 2013 at 9:13 PM

Peole working on their street cred.

  11. dwrek5 - Jul 27, 2013 at 12:09 AM

All pro teams stay in San Fran. Oh sorry, didnt see the 18 previous posts saying the same thing…

  12. APBA Guy - Jul 27, 2013 at 12:24 AM

This was one of those really bad traffic nights in SF: both teams in town playing at night, and the Jay-Z/Timberlake show down 101 at the ‘Stick starting around 8:00. Nothing like a suspicious package on a Bay Bridge exit ramp to be the final straw.
