Brian Wilson throws for scouts: “He looked good”

Jul 26, 2013, 8:53 AM EDT

Brian Wilson threw for an assemblage of scouts yesterday and Danny Knobler of CBS Sports.com says that the reviews are favorable:

“He looked good,” the scout said. “His fastball was 90-93 mph. [He's] not far away.”

It may be easier to list the teams that wouldn’t be at least mildly interested in what is, essentially, freely available bullpen talent. And his presence on the market may be frustrating for any out-of-contention team looking to peddle a reliever.

Off the top of my head I’d say Detroit, Atlanta, San Francisco and Pittsburgh would all have at least some interest. Knobler says scouts from the Pirates, Diamondbacks, A’s, Giants, Phillies, Rangers, Rockies and Cardinals were in attendance at Wilson’s audition.

“He looked good.” Really? Look at that picture! How can anyone with reasonable eye sight say that Wilson looked good?

What’s so bad about how he looks?

      • proudlycanadian - Jul 26, 2013 at 9:49 AM

He is from NH and looks like the product of New England inbreeding.

      • historiophiliac - Jul 26, 2013 at 9:52 AM

What? He’s not homely or got a third eye or anything. I don’t know, maybe he’s a bleeder or something — but, he doesn’t look bad.

        To each their own.

        It’s the shirt.

      • historiophiliac - Jul 26, 2013 at 9:56 AM

Ohhhh, yeah. There’s that. Thanks, blue.

The lack of an olde english “D” on his cap?

      • historiophiliac - Jul 26, 2013 at 11:11 AM

        Mmmmmm

    • sparty0n - Jul 26, 2013 at 10:02 AM

He looks like a MAN and not “pretty” like a metro-pansy that came out of a trans-gender salon.

      • proudlycanadian - Jul 26, 2013 at 10:04 AM

The Neanderthal look is apparently in vogue.

Hey. Your jackass is showing. Don’t be intolerant.

      • Gamera the Brave - Jul 26, 2013 at 12:00 PM

        Neanderthal apologist!

      • unclemosesgreen - Jul 26, 2013 at 1:00 PM

Sure, because nothing says “he-man” like dyeing your beard. Unless of course it’s driving some pretty-boy pickup truck.

    GOT HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEM!!

  3. dalecooperscoffee - Jul 26, 2013 at 9:20 AM

    Fear the beard!

    • unclemosesgreen - Jul 26, 2013 at 9:22 AM

If the scouts think he looks good then it was probably “Shear the beard.”

  4. aceshigh11 - Jul 26, 2013 at 9:33 AM

I don’t know if he’s still got that dumbass beard, but it HAS to go.

We get it, Brian: you’re QUIRKY. You’re baseball’s Zach Galifianakis. Whoo, whacky Brian Wilson! What’s he gonna do or say next?

The shtick is pretty much played, particularly now that he’s blown out his arm. Start pitching like an All Star again, and maybe he can go back to his Andy Kaufman routine.

His taco bell commercial was absolutely painful to watch. I’m not sure who thinks the guy is funny but if that’s an example of his “humor”, it should be nobody.

  5. josemartez - Jul 26, 2013 at 9:35 AM

Does he still look like a hobo?

  6. jssgriffi - Jul 26, 2013 at 12:20 PM

    Mets need to go get’em

Reblogged this on THE QUARTERBACK and commented:
If you had asked me about Brian Wilson three or four years ago I would have been incredibly excited about him coming back. Now I could care less. I am so over his shtick that its not even funny. He is never going to be the same player he was for the Giants so he should just go away.
