Red Sox DH David Ortiz was ejected during tonight’s game against the Orioles after arguing balls and strikes with umpire Tim Timmons. Manager John Farrell had to restrain Ortiz as he shouted at Timmons. After returning to the dugout, Ortiz promptly took out his anger with a baseball bat on the dugout phone. Shards of the bat were ejected in every direction towards Ortiz’s teammates, prompting Dustin Pedroia to confront him.

I would rather play with a player who knows what his job is and goes 110% on the field with 50% of the talent of player who has all he talent in the world and is emotionless and looks at his team mates like a compliment to his talents.
Ortiz asked for the big bucks got them and produced. Let that be a lesson to other team mates watching. Every at bat counts and I DON’T LIKE TO LOSE. Even one at bat. I feel bad for the phone and I hope I didn’t damage my bat.

In Papi’s defense, it was a ball, high and out of the strike zone. Unfortunately, there is no way to punish incompetent umps, other than to deny them officiating in the playoffs.

The team should suspend him for his actions in the dugout. What a jerk!
