Trade Rumor of the Day

Jul 29, 2013, 5:43 PM EDT

I dunno, man, this one seems a little too crazy to believe …

Still two more days of this stuff, too.

  1. proudlycanadian - Jul 29, 2013 at 5:46 PM

Trade their GM. That might improve the team.

    • tycobb420 - Jul 29, 2013 at 6:19 PM

I dunno, maybe ” . . . in 10 years time” was supposed to appear at the end of that sentence. That could make sense.

The Angels are screwed. So much money tied up in two completely horrible contracts. They will have to be the smartest front office in baseball to succeed with the Pujols-Hamilton fiscal boat anchor. They should trade for the entire Tampa front office, is what they should do.

    • fearlessleader - Jul 29, 2013 at 7:09 PM

And yet…their GM is only doing what their celebrity-crazed, common-sense-deprived owner is telling him to. I honestly don’t think Jerry DiPoto can reasonably be expected to take the blame for the Pujols and Hamilton signings.

    • dirtyharry1971 - Jul 29, 2013 at 9:17 PM

same could be said for the bluejays so what are you talking about? amazing

      • proudlycanadian - Jul 29, 2013 at 9:22 PM

The Angels learned the art of bad contracts from Cashman. They learned their lesson well.

      • dirtyharry1971 - Jul 30, 2013 at 7:21 AM

Sure you wanna go there pc? You want bad contacts? Jays have plenty of those, how about terrible one sides trades? The jays wrote the book on that, every move they made this past off season has turned into shit. Kinda like your life

      • stlouis1baseball - Jul 30, 2013 at 9:34 AM

Is that it Harry? You were attacked by a family of Blue Jays? I knew it had to be something traumatizing with the amount of vile rhetoric you consistently bring to the table.
Tell me…is PC correct? A family of Blue Jays attacked you?
        Hey…no disrespect in that.
They are very territorial and can get quite angry.
I once had one dive bomb me (she had a chick nearby) and I had to swing a trash can lid at it. True story.
But I don’t hate all Blue Jays as a result of that one.

    • polonelmeagrejr - Jul 30, 2013 at 9:16 AM

dirty harry – why so nasty? This is a sports board. You don’t know proudlycanadian and yet feel qualified to take a gratuitous personal shot at him. CUt it out.

      • proudlycanadian - Jul 30, 2013 at 9:28 AM

We have recently learned that Harry was attacked by a family of Blue Jays while on his way to school. He was never the same after this incident.

  2. raysfan1 - Jul 29, 2013 at 5:49 PM

Craig, Don’t Stop these reports. You Can Go Your Own Way, but I’m Never Going Back Again.

    • km9000 - Jul 29, 2013 at 6:19 PM

Isn’t this Second Hand News? I Don’t Want to Know.

      • apkyletexas - Jul 29, 2013 at 6:52 PM

        Craig Makes Lovin’ Fun.

        Wait — what??

    • deathmonkey41 - Jul 29, 2013 at 6:51 PM

Gleeman is going to kick your ass for calling him Craig.

      • raysfan1 - Jul 29, 2013 at 9:45 PM

Oops. He’ll have to catch me first.

  3. losanginsight - Jul 29, 2013 at 5:52 PM

Maybe the rookie gm they hired should have mixed in a few SP’s instead of signing players past their prime to $100 million deals.

  4. tfbuckfutter - Jul 29, 2013 at 5:53 PM

    “That makes no sense.”

    -Jeff Loria

  5. pjmitch - Jul 29, 2013 at 5:54 PM

I’m wondering who should be more embarassed about sending this out. Aaron or this Jeff Fletcher character. Thanks for nothing.

Do you think the other teams might have had the same discussions? STOP THE PRESSES!!!!

    • km9000 - Jul 29, 2013 at 6:32 PM

      The sarchasm claims another victim…

  6. Liam - Jul 29, 2013 at 6:06 PM

Murray: You get a love triangle, you know, a Fleetwood Mac situation. Although there was four of them, so more of a love square. But you know, no-one gets on.
    Jemaine: Ok, I see.
Murray: Mind you, they did make some of their best music back then.
    Bret: Rumours.
Murray: No. No, it’s all true.

  7. onbucky96 - Jul 29, 2013 at 6:13 PM

Hey LAA, we’ll send you Yo, you send us 3 more prospects to continue fixing our farm system. Sincerely, Doug Melvin

  8. sdelmonte - Jul 29, 2013 at 6:35 PM

Hey, I would rather read this than another PED column.

  9. imnotyourbuddyguy - Jul 29, 2013 at 6:43 PM

Based on what I’ve seen the past 2 seasons.

I don’t believe this rumor at all

    • km9000 - Jul 29, 2013 at 7:05 PM

Thing is, it’s been a long time since they’ve been sellers at the deadline. So at least there’s the possibility that the Angels can benefit from a Skaggs/Corbin type move for once. Not that it’s likely, but we have a few days to dream.

  10. gloccamorra - Jul 29, 2013 at 7:43 PM

Wow, this is a big scoop! Once the small market clubs realize how the big boys do it, they’ll be having those internal discussions on how to improve the club too. This could really shake things up!

  11. billymc75 - Jul 29, 2013 at 7:54 PM

    best trade chip is trumbo

  12. misterscmo - Jul 29, 2013 at 9:03 PM

Hamilton? Pujols? Maybe the Angels could call up that team that took the old world record bad contract (Wells) off Toronto’s hands. Oh, wait…that was the Angels.

  13. seantorre - Jul 29, 2013 at 9:23 PM

How many bloggers on here knows anything about the Angels? None! If you did then you would know that Pujols and Hammy are going to be fine and the real issue behind the woes is horrible starting pitching excluding Weaver. The End!

    • stex52 - Jul 30, 2013 at 12:15 PM

I will grant you a couple of points. But it is not The End:

      1. Pitching is the biggest problem.
      2. Pujols has actually been better than you would believe from reading this blog. Until he finally
got the MRI he may have been slightly above average in 1st base hitting, although the power
      was mediocre.

But Pujols is out for the season for all practical purposes. He will need surgery, and at his best he has not been anywhere near worth the contract they gave him. And Hamilton? Who knows? At his age and with his floundering this year and history of being a head case, I would be pretty worried about him.

  14. moogro - Jul 29, 2013 at 9:38 PM

They’re stuck with the curse of the Anaheim not wanting to be Anaheim curse. Trust me.

  15. proudliberal85392 - Jul 29, 2013 at 9:49 PM

Angels GM Josh Byrnes did his “Mess Up a Franchise” apprenticeship here in Phoenix. Now he’s refining it in Anaheim. I will give him this…temps are cooler in Anaheim.
