Sean Burnett is done for the season

The Angels’ two-year, $8 million marriage with left-handed reliever Sean Burnett is off to rocky start.

Burnett has made just 13 total appearances this season because of elbow issues and now Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times passes along word that he has been shut down for the final two months due to ongoing joint discomfort. He might need surgery, but it won’t be the Tommy John kind.

Burnett posted a dominant 2.38 ERA and 57/12 K/BB ratio in 56 2/3 innings last season for the Nationals and parlayed that into a nice free agent deal in Anaheim. He will make $3.75 million in 2014 and carries a $4.5 million club option for 2015.

I’m not surprised. Burnett did the same thing last year. Great pitcher when Healthy, the problem is he’s hardly ever healthy.

Sean Burnett is pretty stoked that Pujols and Hamilton are on the roster to take the heat off paying him to do nothing.

Burnett, Madsen, Blanton …. 2 wins $ 13.5 million. Pretty good return on investment ! Let the housecleaning begin start at the top FIRE SCIOSCIA, BUTCHER, THE HITTING COACH (I think they have one) Dipoto’s hands were tied with the Pujols & Hamilton signings but signing Blanton for 2 yrs/15 mil. was his nightmare. I would give him 1 more yr to get some winners in there or he can hit the road too. Arte if your going to throw the money around get a proven starter & closer we can count on. Thank God for Mike Trout! Best all around baseball player on the planet.

Yep, Mike S all of a sudden forgot how to manage a baseball team. I agree with you on Butcher because there have been problems with the pitching, especially the pen, ever since Bud Black went to San Diego. The strategy of bringing in another outfielder when the Angels needed quality pitching is the problem.

Just maybe DiPoto needs to take baseball 101! Anyone with an IQ over 7 can do what he’s done.
