The Rangers asked the Blue Jays about Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion

Jul 31, 2013, 12:45 PM EST

Worried about losing Nelson Cruz, much, Texas?

This is more about the Rangers than the Blue Jays, of course. Even if the Jays aren’t willing to part with their big bats, the notion that the Rangers are looking for bats that big implies that they are willing to trade major prospects for an offensive upgrade.

Will Jurickson Profar be a Ranger by day’s end?

    • tc4306 - Jul 31, 2013 at 12:58 PM

      Probably.
But Elvis may be leaving the house.

      • dondada10 - Jul 31, 2013 at 1:02 PM

8 for 120. If he’s traded the 9th year, originally a vesting option, becomes a player option. Yuck.

Do the Rangers even have any ‘top’ prospects left to trade?

    • biasedhomer - Jul 31, 2013 at 2:08 PM

They still have a top 10 farm system

      • turdfurgerson68 - Jul 31, 2013 at 2:24 PM

Ok, guess the Rangers have the ammo to pull the trigger on a blockbuster deal.

Now, will the Toronto be smart enough to pillage Texas’ prospects?

Recent activities from the Blue Jays front office suggest: NO.

IMO AA has to listen at least – to fix this mess will cost him minimum one core player (who?!) plus prospects…not a big fan of trading either but it is what it is so the return better be huge..and I think such a deal would involve minimum 3 teams, maybe 4…

“Worried about losing Nelson Cruz, much, Texas?”

It’s this kind of hard-hitting journalism that keeps me coming back to HBT.

I mean it flows more than a Shakesperian sonnet.

Texas still has a boatload of top tier prospects, they could probably get just about anyone they wanted if they could handle the price.

    The rangers are trying everything

  7. mc1439 - Jul 31, 2013 at 1:44 PM

The only caveat is who ever is traded to Texas has to participate in their nightly circle jerking sessions.
You know; because the Rangers are gay.

This leak is old news as someone also spouted off about it a couple of days ago. Asking was a waste of time by the Rangers is designed to show the fans that they are trying.

The Blue Jays would be open to trading Bautista, but not his beard.

Trade one of the Beaver Bash Brothers? No friggin way. E5 & JB are a team. An all Dominican Onslaught of Beavery Goodness. Crazy talk. Its fair to say BOTH guys got their renaissance in TO. They came there as players who were not highly regarded and turned into who they are now: a combined 54 HRs, 149 RBIs and have come across to score 137 times so far this season. Compare this to Prince and Miggy combined: 47 HRs, 132 RBIs, and across to score 132 times.

    E5 & JB ftw.

Only crazy people trade one of those guys. Now Emilio Bonifacio…him you can have.

I think the Blue Jays should give up on 2013, and that means take 25 cents on a dollar for players who have no future contribution (Keep EE and JB, but trade JJ, Dickey, MB). How many times does this have to happen before these GMs learn? You pay for future contributions, NOT big names, NOT Past Awards.
