A minor league team put up a 30-spot on its opponent last night

The High Desert Mavericks played the Lancaster Jethawks in a California league tilt last night. This happened:

The whole box score is here. Two Lancaster pitchers gave up ten runs a piece in only two-thirds innings of work. Patrick Kivlehan of the Mavericks led the charge with a 5 for 7 night and drove in six. His teammate Andrew Aplin drove in four. He has 96 RBI on the season, which seems a lot for high-A ball.

Overall: Lancaster is a much better team than High Desert, at least if you look at the won-loss record. I suppose a lot of odd things happen in high-A ball.

Innings like the first two do wonders for a pitcher’s ERA.

Let’s not overlook the zeroes in the 6th and 7th, and build on that, boys.
And, um, we’ve also seen this at the MLB level. Rangers at Orioles, Aug. 22, 2007. And that one wasn’t even this close! 30-3.

That’s DeLino DeShields’ kid leading off for Lancaster. Looks like he’s doing pretty well.

I believe Aplin plays for Lancaster. So the teammate thing……

20-1 after two innings? That’s gotta hurt for Lancaster.
