LaTroy Hawkins took a comebacker to the — oh, my, oh … that’s awful

Aug 15, 2013, 8:23 AM EDT

You think you had a bad day at work? Check out what happened to LaTroy Hawkins, via Chad Moriyama at MLBgifs.com:

source:

Yes, it hit him exactly where you think it hit him.  And to make matters worse:

After the game Hawkins said it was a “Direct hit. Direct hit. Di-rect hit.” He added that “I feel like I got kicked by a mule.”

Kids: wear your cup. Don’t even try to argue with me. Just wear your friggin’ cup.

So I guess that’s not the ‘helmet’ location that they tested for pitchers in Spring Training.

      Wrong head.

    • Hunter Pence's Eyes - Aug 15, 2013 at 9:50 AM

      That’s a dick move, bro.

  2. decimusprime - Aug 15, 2013 at 8:32 AM

How in the world was he able to not only remain on his feet, but also go after the play to 1st? I would need to be carted off the field. Ouch!

    • zapainhurtzalot - Aug 18, 2013 at 11:15 AM

Right in the mommy-daddies!! And I’m with you decimusprime, how he stayed on his feet and made the throw, that’s a real man there! I’d have been crying like a baby screaming for an ice pack LOL!!!

Say goodbye to your two best friends, and I don’t mean your pals in the Winnebago!

    • heyblueyoustink - Aug 15, 2013 at 8:45 AM

      Is one named eight ball?

    • sabatimus - Aug 15, 2013 at 12:25 PM

If only holding a mirror to your crotch could deflect baseballs as it does laser beams shot from a ring found in a Cracker Jack box.

    • hammyofdoom - Aug 15, 2013 at 9:10 PM

I see your Schwartz is as big as mine…

  4. Walk - Aug 15, 2013 at 8:32 AM

I was gonna say you “sank my battleship”, but considering the target the sub may be a more appropriate analogy.

I mean, if she doesn’t roll up on this post positively oozing schadenfreude I will begin to worry that the legion of trolls, thumb-suckers, crayon-eaters and handle-jackers finally got to her.

    • Alex K - Aug 15, 2013 at 8:56 AM

I can’t imagine her not being here enjoying every. single. second. of this .gif. She’s still talking about HBPiD!

      • ptfu - Aug 15, 2013 at 9:09 AM

So what should this comebacker incident be called? HBCiD?

    • cur68 - Aug 15, 2013 at 10:42 AM

My Dog. My eyes are watering.

When she sees this, we’ll have to try and get her banned. Otherwise we’ll never hear the end of it.

  6. chrisdtx - Aug 15, 2013 at 9:06 AM

    Oh nuts!

  7. heyblueyoustink - Aug 15, 2013 at 9:14 AM

This is why pitchers should have shields on their off arm.

  8. sportsdrenched - Aug 15, 2013 at 9:34 AM

Watch the dude with the beard in the first row’s jaw drop.

    • sabatimus - Aug 15, 2013 at 12:26 PM

I’m pretty sure the guy says “Ohhh SH*T!”

  9. tfbuckfutter - Aug 15, 2013 at 9:35 AM

That took out both LaTroy AND the Hawkins.

  10. sdelmonte - Aug 15, 2013 at 9:41 AM

So I guess we can explain his blowing the save?

    Or was this after that?

    • The Dangerous Mabry - Aug 15, 2013 at 10:01 AM

Next batter hit a two run homer to tie the game. It might not have been related, but since the man just took a shot in the pills, I’m giving him a pass for this one.

  11. jm91rs - Aug 15, 2013 at 10:00 AM

Isn’t this dude on the same team as Jordany Valdespin? He didn’t learn that not wearing a cup is an awful idea when Verlander hit Valdespin in the nuts early this year?

  12. josemartez - Aug 15, 2013 at 10:10 AM

    At least it bounced first.

    • lightcleric - Aug 15, 2013 at 10:46 AM

Yeah, I can’t imagine he would have gotten back up if that had been a hard line drive. It’s amazing he was able to get up after this one.

  13. tmohr - Aug 15, 2013 at 10:16 AM

Been there, done that (playing softball), had to have an ultrasound on my little fellas. Big fun.

  14. sametalker - Aug 15, 2013 at 10:51 AM

They wouldn’t call it BABIP unless the balls were in play.

    • nbjays - Aug 16, 2013 at 7:10 AM

      Well played, sir!

      /golf clap

  15. grumpyoleman - Aug 15, 2013 at 10:59 AM

I would have swung and knocked it out of the park lol.

  16. romoscollarbone - Aug 15, 2013 at 2:31 PM

The only people wearing cups on a diamond are the catchers and the home plate umpire.

  17. moogro - Aug 15, 2013 at 6:14 PM

Did he make the play to first?

  18. cubfan531 - Aug 15, 2013 at 7:42 PM

    No love between former teammates.

  19. gloccamorra - Aug 15, 2013 at 11:09 PM

If only that video were a little bit longer – the people behind the plate were just beginning to react. The blonde in the second row right behind the catcher began to LAUGH. Why are blondes so cruel?
