Rays designate Ryan Roberts for assignment

Alex Cobb returning from his head injury tonight meant the Rays had to make room on the roster and they designated Ryan Roberts for assignment.

Roberts was acquired in the middle of last season after a couple solid years with the Diamondbacks, but he hit just .229 with 11 homers and a .658 OPS in 120 games for the Rays while seeing time at second base and third base.

Roberts is 32 years old and didn’t even produce in a 24-game stint at Triple-A earlier this season, so his brief window might be just about closed.

Nearly the same output gets Ryan Raburn a 2 yr deal with the Indians….and he’s a LOT worse with the glove.

This guy will be back as a NL role player.

It’s time to tap out tatman. Needles to say, you inked a mediocre career. Good day and good luck.

During the recent DBacks-Rays series Kirk Gibson mentioned Roberts as a grinder who he really respected. Wouldn’t be surprised if he is back on the Snakes next year (minor league contract, spring training invite), worst case as organizational depth.

Royals need to dump Chris Getz and sign this guy… but they won’t because GM Dayton Moore has some weird man crush on Getz.

The same man crush Joe Madden has on Sean Rodriguez

If Pastornicky is going to be out a while I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Braves give him a shot.
