Mets catcher John Buck has left the team to be with his wife who has gone into labor, per the Mets official Twitter. As a result, manager Terry Collins has put Anthony Recker into the lineup batting seventh tonight against the Padres, and the team has recalled catching prospect Travis d’Arnaud from Triple-A Las Vegas, per ESPN’s Adam Rubin.

d’Arnaud, 24, was originally drafted by the Phillies in the first round of the 2007 draft. They sent him to the Blue Jays in the Roy Halladay trade. The Mets acquired d’Arnaud in the trade that sent starter R.A. Dickey to the Blue Jays. d’Arnaud missed most of the season with a broken bone in his foot. In 78 plate appearances with the Las Vegas 51’s, d’Arnaud posted a 1.041 OPS with 12 strikeouts and 21 walks.

Lets hope that he stays healthy. He has had a consistent run of bad luck with regard to his healt.

      EDIT FUNCTION “health”

In fairness, the most recent injury was a foul tip off the foot. It’s not like he tore a string running out a grounder, or has some sort of chronic injury.

Just bad luck. If he produces, he’ll just be cheaper during his prime years.

Well hopefully he does better then Pillar who is so far “hitless” and looks completely overmatched at the plate.

Funny that d’Arnaud gets called up on the same day that Noah Syndergaard dominates, again, in the minors.

5 IP (innings limit), 10 K, 0 BB. 20 year old who has destroyed AA. Should be a Top 10 prospect going into 2014.

The lousy baseball fans of San Diego don’t even deserve to be treated to a major league debut of a fine prospect like d’Arnaud. What a waste!

Glad to see him up, with the season JPA has had I wish it was still with us. Hope he does great. Mets have a great future.

That makes a total of one New York team that has a promising future.
