HBT Daily: Harvey, the Yankees and the Astros profits

Aug 27, 2013, 3:31 PM EDT

When might we see Matt Harvey again? Could the Yankees take the wild card? And what can we make, if anything, from reports about a team’s finances?

I know there are some on this board that will make light of my comment perhaps even mock it but I’m still not convinced that the Yankees don’t have a chance at winning the division. They have 7 games remaining against the Sox, 3 against the Rays and 7 against the Orioles and 4 still against the Jays. That’s 21 games against division rivals of their 30 remaining games. Their other 9 games, 3 each versus the Giants, White Sox and Astros (not in that order). With 16 of the 30 games at home.

Sure the odds are stacked against the Yankees for winning the division and for that matter either of the Wild Card spots. But the odds have been against the Yankees this entire season and I would venture to guess there isn’t one poster on this board that if they were honest with themselves wouldn’t have to admit that the Yankees have overachieved this season. With all the injuries and “controversy” surrounding the team I think it’s a miracle the Yankees are 8 games over .500 and still in the race at all with only 30 games remaining. I’m not willing to count them out of either race just yet and I think it would be a mistake for anyone else to at this point. Those are all just my opinions.
