Bryce Harper! Eric Young, Jr.! It’s Sunday Night Baseball!!

Aug 28, 2013, 12:30 PM EDT

You lose Matt Harvey and David Wright to injuries and you trade away Marlon Byrd and this is what ESPN is left with to promote your team for Sunday Night Baseball:

Still, it’ll be a good game because it’s baseball and baseball is almost always a good game.  There are so many variables which go into it that star power is not a necessary component of it. That’s what people who always wonder why MLB isn’t marketed like the NBA or whatever.

The Mets, while certainly not a good team at the moment, are capable of beating anyone on any given night because that’s just how baseball rolls. Even if Eric Young, Jr. is your biggest name.

Thank god it’s not the Yankees vs the Red Sox

I don’t care what players ESPN uses to promote their games, I just want them to pick good teams, ones who are playing a game with some importance in the various playoff races. Sadly, ESPN doesn’t consider ‘good teams’ as an important item when prioritizing games, so we’re left with this clunker at the end of a big weekend.

The Cards and Pirates will be battling for first place in beautiful PNC Park on Sunday. Glad they spared us from having to sit through that and decided to show us Bryce Harper instead.

    Was Jon Nunnally unavailable?

ESPN’s ads for its baseball programming are so terrible.

They could have used Jon Niese, fresh off his shutout.

You mean Sunday Night into Monday Morning Baseball.

Given that I have MLB.tv, and don’t have ESPN, I prefer that ESPN show as many bad games as possible, because their games are on the short list of games I can’t watch anyway.

The way the media and fans hype up prospects these days, they might as well give the promo pic to Travis d’Arnaud.

Gametime was listed as “TBD” on the Nats’ schedule as “TBD” until a few days ago.

Late-season Sunday Night games should have more meaning. Especially, since ESPN gets a say in who plays. Having a ticket to the game (as part of our half-season ticket plan), I plan to be there. But it’s good that Monday is a day off.

“That’s what people who always wonder why MLB isn’t marketed like the NBA or whatever.”

This sentence gave me a brain freeze.
