Watch: Hunter Pence hit MLB’s longest homer this season

Aug 28, 2013, 1:20 PM EDT

Hunter Pence took Chad Bettis deep at Coors Field last night for a 476-foot homer that Hit Tracker measured as the longest in MLB this season:

Side note after watching that clip: I miss Jon Miller.

Hit Tracker is about as accurate as Joe West. Seems to spit out random numbers at times.

I should note my critique of Hit Tracker is solely on home run distances. No idea if it is accurate in other areas.

Hit Tracker seems to diminish homers with extremely high trajectories that land in seats. This is especially true with stadiums that have three decks. Balls in the upper deck are often fewer feet than those in the middle deck because they found a seat sooner.

Apparently Hit Tracker employees read this site.

I saw this last night during the A’s/Detroit rain/delay. Maybe Hit Tracker isn’t 100% accurate, but that thing just kept going. I guess that baseball was an escapee from the humidor. It reminded me of some of those shots from the Larry Walker/Dante Bichette days.

I remember seeing Hunter Pence crush homers wayyyy farther than Ryan Howard during BP in Philly. He is deceptively strong…
