Yasiel Puig made another outstanding throw

Padres pitcher Andrew Cashner slapped a one-hopper into deep right field on Saturday night at Dodger Stadium and it looked like Rene Rivera — who was moving on contact with two outs — would score easily from second base. But rocket-armed Cuban phenom Yasiel Puig was having none of it.

Watch the gifted 22-year-old right fielder throw a laser beam from almost 300 feet away to cut down Rivera — with time to spare — at home plate:

You look at the plate discipline, or lack there of, his power, and his cannon arm, and he’s Vladimir Guerrero.

He lacks the supernatural plate coverage of Vlad, but otherwise it’s a pretty fair comp.

He lacks the supernatural plate coverage?

        Think again.

He missed the cut off. Bench him!

    Puig has a cannon.

    That was sweet.

And what a great comment by Scully: “Oh, to be 22 and a Dodger.”

    Livin’ the dream, baby.

The veterans secretly complained that he should have used the cutoff man.

    More like 250 ft.

Mattingly should have benched him for not throwing to second. Lucky for Puig the batter didn’t try to take an extra base.

Ned for GM of the Year.

Puig looks like a great signing. If you spend like a drunken sailor, you’re bound to make one of those once in awhile.
