Jose Bautista has been shut down for the season

Sep 4, 2013, 2:30 PM EDT

From the Blue Jays Twitter Machine:

Bautista has been out since August 20, when his ailment was diagnosed as a bruised hip. Hip, femur, whatever. At this point nothing of the Jays’ season matters but the packing up and planning for Dunedin, Florida next February.

As for Bautista, his year ends with a line of .259/.358/.498 with 28 homers and 73 RBI

Wow, talk about unfulfilled expectations for this team.

    Big shock…was expecting it anyway..
Rajai can now go for his payday, and we’ll see what Sierra has to offer…

Kinda feel bad for Blue Jay fans as 2013 has been a severe disappointment.

Nearly every move made by the GM Athropolous has backfired…badly.

The new GM is going to have quite a mess to cleanup.

No surprise. The injury had initially been described as a bruised bone; however, Craig missed that. With Bautista, Melky and Rasmus on the shelf, the young outfielders (Sierra, Gose and Pillar) have had a chance to get some valuable playing time. At second base, another rookie (Goins) is replacing an injured Izturis. With Goins, a 90% healthy Reyes, and a healthy Lawrie, and no Melky, the defense has been much improved. They have won their last 3 series and 7 of their last 9 games.

Plus, the hip is the ball-in-socket joint between the femur and the pelvis anyway, so “hip bruise” and “femur bruise” are not mutually exclusive terms.
