Miguel Cabrera out of the lineup tonight

He was out then back in and now he’s out again. Jim Leyland has penciled in his lineup for tonight’s game against the Red Sox and Miguel Cabrera is not in it.

The Player of the Month for August — they just announced that — is obviously still hurting. And one can’t help but think he was hurting last night when he came up with the bases loaded and couldn’t deliver against Jon Lester.

Obviously a healthy Miguel Cabrera is key for the Detroit Tigers. And obviously he’s not getting any better right now.

If the tigers expect to go anywhere in the playoffs, they’ve got to rest him up. He’s falling apart.

“And one can’t help but think he was hurting last night when he came up with the bases loaded and couldn’t deliver against Jon Lester.”

Ah the ol’ “situational hitting” narrative so beloved by sports writers. I’m a bit surprised to see you going there, Craig. Maybe he couldn’t deliver with the bases loaded because even the best hitters in the game get to strike three sometimes.

Also surprised at Craig’s assumption here, though of course it might be true. It’s not as if Lester was throwing batting practice last night—despite the two runs, he was as in command as I’ve seen him this season, and Lester at his best is pretty damn good.

The fact that the tigers even played him yesterday was surprising. the game last night was not a must win for them. they need to sit this guy for a week or two. he’s obviously not right just from watching him play last night. if he isn’t healthy and ready to go for the playoffs, then its fair to criticize the tigers for mis-managing this whole thing.

His season is in complete free fall.

    TROUT FOR MVP!

    Dear fellow Tigers fans,

I’m sorry for not wearing my away cap last night. This oversight has been rectified. Sorry for jinxing the game.

Miggy needs to be healthy for the playoffs. Period. The Tigers should win out the Central no matter what, unless it’s a complete colapse.

    God couldn’t save them tonight.

I feel like the Sox are just firing a warning shot right now for the playoffs letting the Tigers know they can play ball too.
