Leg cramps force Yu Darvish from another start

Sep 10, 2013, 10:47 AM EDT

Texas Rangers pitcher Yu Darvish delivers a pitch against the Houston Astros in the second inning of their MLB American League baseball game in Houston Reuters

Overshadowed by the Pirates beating the Rangers last night to clinch their first winning season since 1992 is that Texas ace Yu Darvish left the game with leg cramps.

Todd Willis of ESPN Dallas reports that the Rangers are calling it a minor injury and for now at least Darvish is expected to make his next start, but the cramping forced him from the eighth inning of a 1-0 game after just 81 pitches and he previously had similar cramping issues in a start last month.

He’s scheduled to face the A’s on Saturday afternoon, which is about as important as a start can get.

Saving his arm (81 pitches) for the rematch with Oakland. Gave up 5 in 5 last time w/ 5 walks as Oakland romped. Darvish wants revenge so he faked a cramp

Never thought I’d see the day when the Rangers would start collapsing due to an inability to hit. All the pitching in the world can’t help when the offense is scuffling as bad as the Rangers are right now.

Leg cramps are a symptom of a lack of tWtW

Nothing some Gatorade, dill pickles, and crap ton of water can’t fix.
