Brandon Beachy’s season is over

Sep 12, 2013, 11:45 AM EDT

All of us who are convinced that Matt Harvey should go get Tommy John surgery yesterday should probably remind ourselves that it’s not ALWAYS a routine thing. Take Brandon Beachy who hasn’t been able to get right this year:

Beachy has pitched in five games this year and he’s now likely done for the season.

The Braves are now short him, Tim Hudson and Paul Maholm in the rotation. Not gonna hate on ‘em, but no, the Braves are not currently my favorite to come out of the NL playoffs.

I’m sure Beachy appreciates the sentiment, but guys on the DL still get paid, so he’s probably not looking for part time work.

Remember when the Braves had the “problem” of too many starters?

Yep. No team in the history of the world had too much pitching, especially starters. You also heard that talk about the Cards early on this year. They were knee deep in pitching depth. Guess what? They will probably hang on and win, but they have used all of that depth to get there.

So many injuries. After O’Flaherty, Venters, Hudson, Maholm, Pastornicky, Pena and Heyward, not to mention basically EVERY position player being hurt at some point. I’d hoped the bleeding would stop.

I mean really, BJ, McCann, Freeman, Heyward, Yanish, Laird, Reed Johnson, Pena, Schafer, Pastornicky and Uggla have all gone on the 15-day DL or worse at some point. :(Still can’t use injuries as an excuse though, we gotta get it together!

Every team can make that list. The Cardinals have been without Carpenter, Motte, and Fucal all year. Garcia and Gast have been gone almost all year and aren’t coming back. Freese, Holliday, Molina, Craig, Adams, Westbrook, Cruz, Robinson, and Salas have all been on the DL.

Injuries suck, but they suck for most every team.
