Nelson Cruz is working out with the Rangers

Melky Cabrera was no precedent it seems.

Jhonny Peralta is working out with the Tigers and will rejoin the team for the playoffs. So too Nelson Cruz and the Rangers, reports Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News. Though he’s at the team’s complex in Arizona, not with the team yet.

Cruz is eligible to return from his 50-game suspension at the start of the postseason. Given that he was hitting .269/.330/.511 with 27 home runs and 76 RBI in 108 games before then, the Rangers could certainly use him.

I am a little surprised by this and with the other teams. I’m not one of the “Hang ‘em High” guys for PED’s, but I would have thought a 50 game suspension was a 50 game suspension from MLB activities in general. I didn’t think they could be working out, using facilities, etc. for the whole time.

They’re not getting paid for those 50 games, so there’s that.

He is going to get booed on the road in the playoffs. And rightfully so. He should be done for the year. Too bad.
