Padres name Trevor Hoffman upper level pitching coordinator

Sep 12, 2013, 4:12 PM EDT

Trevor Hoffman became the all-time saves leader in San Diego (at least for a time), converting 552 of his 601 career saves for the Friars. And when he, presumably, goes into the Hall of Fame he’ll do so wearing a Padres cap. Now he’ll have Padres business cards:

Hoffman had his number 51 retired by the Padres a couple of years ago. Presumably he’ll be breaking that out in spring training and as he travels to Tucson and San Antonio and places like that.

San Diego is now known as the Trevor Hoffman Padres? This headline confuses me.

I could remember that name better than the name of the stadium they play in – or several others.

From time to time I call their park “Jack Murphy” and they don’t even play there anymore =/

How about someone who can properly evaluate talent?

For some reason the Padres have hired a few HoF bound ex-players a year or two before they are elected, we could argue they do it because they excelled in their time, but at least with Winfield it was because back then a player elected whose cap he would be depicted wearing in his plaque (MLB/HoF got rid of that when Boggs said he wanted to be depicted wearing a NYY cap, and it was leaked the Padres offered Winfield money to choose them).
