HBT Daily: The Mariano Rivera Roast

Sep 16, 2013, 12:56 PM EDT

Were the Red Sox classy enough to Mariano Rivera? Is the fat lady singing in the AL West? Will the Pirates pitchers be up to the task come October?

Those things and more on today’s HBT Daily. Well, mostly those things actually. Not much more. Whatever.

Wouldn’t Rivera’s lower moment be the blown save in Game 7 of the 2001 World Series over the blown save in Game 4 of the 2004 ALCS? I get it was versus the Red Sox but isn’t World Series > ALCS?

      Gotta agree with you there.

The only thing that makes the ALCS sting more is that:

      – it was against their “rival” team (they’re all friends behind the scenes; it’s the FANS who hate each other)

      – it led to a four-game collapse after coming out 3-0

But still…the chance for five World Series in six years trumps 2004 by a bit, especially coming on the heels of 9/11 and NY needing a morale boost.

    Oh c’mon…

I thought it was extremely classy. How could the Sox not take a bit of a piss with someone like Mariano, a foe who they’ve battled against for almost 20 years?

Don’t forget that the end of the tribute video consisted of Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” blasting over a barrage of Mariano striking out one Red Sock after another.

There was a ton of love and respect out on that field.

    Hey Craig,

What’s the deal with removing the Coors-Miller article?
