Ryan Braun’s popularity has taken a hit

Nathanial R. alerts me to some public polling in Wisconsin. After all the boring stuff about politicians, we get to this vital item:

After word leaked of his first failed drug test Ryan Braun remained popular in Wisconsin, registering at a 59/7 favorability rating in February of 2012. Voters in the state have had enough following the latest round of revelations though, and now his numbers stand at a 15/39 spread.

Great. Now Braun will never be elected starting left fielder for the Brewers next year.

Also: please re-poll if and when Bruan is hitting home runs and helping the Brewers win baseball games. I sorta feel like that for ballplayers is akin to the economy for politicians. Even if people think the guy in question is a sonofoabitch, they’ll generally put up with him as long as things are going well.

C’mon Craig, you saw the Taiwanese (?) animation. Braun won’t be able to lift a bat next year, let alone hit bombs.

I see on opening day. decent amount of boos and a lot of silence. Then in the 3rd or 4th inning Braun hits a bomb and the place goes nuts in cheers.
It’s a what have you done for me lately society!!!

Why? What happened? What’d I miss?

Ryan Braun killed a puppy, baked it into a cake and ate it all on live tv.

People are upset that it was puppy cake and not puppy pie. Plus, he used ketchup instead of mustard.

uhhh Duh! Thank you for the confirmation!

If he comes out next year and struggles, do we process impeachment papers or can there be a recall vote on his contract where he has to compete against the bratwurst?

There’s 2 ways to take the steroid situation after being caught:

The path of a Jason Giambi or Andy Pettitte, and people forget about it
    or
The they direction that Arod and Bonds have gone, permanently damaging your image

    • dlf9 - Sep 19, 2013 at 2:28 PM

The Andy Pettite approach: first say that you’ve never taken PEDs; then say you’ve done so, but only once; then say that you have done so multiple times. Pettite’s story has changed so often that I think he should run for Congress. Tell me, what was it about this approach that is any different than Braun?

The Giambi approach: I can’t tell you anything because the lawyers tell me not to, but you can infer what you want. He never actually said he did PEDs. How is this different than how Mark McGwire responded to Congress?

People forget about it if the player is a nobody or if they have a pleasant personality or if they’ve broken no records.

The difference between Petite and Braun is that Andy didn’t go all full court press to ruin a man’s reputation and career. You don’t see any difference?

If I was his publicist, I would have him confirm his love of Milwaukee by changing his name from Braun to Brat-Worst

He needs to grow a magical beard.

If he returns to his MVP form there will be no boos by mid season next year.

    • NatsLady - Sep 19, 2013 at 2:46 PM

Yes, yes there will. In every opposing city.

Braun is a stud, will always be a stud. . . all the haters are going to have to sit back and watch this guy for the next 10 years put up the same numbers as he has in the past.

People act like Braun is the first and only player to ever use PEDs (not steriods). Get over yourself, he doesn’t owe anybody anything.

And if you’re mad he lied about it; give him a call on his cell phone, and if you don’t have his number you shouldn’t be that emotionally attached to care about someone you don’t even know.

Bahahaha. Fraud is a stud… Always has been a stud. Thanks for the laugh.

  13. barkleyblows - Sep 19, 2013 at 5:50 PM

The only way this guy returns to his MVP form is by finding another roid supplier.

I would assume he has multiple. So yeah, I guess it could happen.

Every player who was involved in this crap has had their popularity take a slide, and rightfully so. Fans in Milwaukee will be more forgiving if his play is consistant next season.

Over 60% have no opinion, don’t care or support Braun. So “people” are taking a wait-and-see approach: is Braun for real? Apparently this irks Mr. Calcaterra, who again snarls and spits about the guy getting another chance.
