Stephen Strasburg scratched from another start with forearm problems

Stephen Strasburg was scratched from his scheduled start last week due to forearm tightness, but the Nationals insisted it was a minor injury and later rescheduled him to start today.

Unfortunately that’s not going to happen, as the team announced last night that Strasburg has been scratched from that start because his forearm problems haven’t subsided. Or as manager Davey Johnson told Mark Zuckerman of CSNWashington.com: “It’s just not worth the risks. He wanted to go tomorrow, I said no.”

Based on that quote shutting Strasburg down for the season seems fairly likely, although the right-hander continues to talk as if he plans to start at least once more. For now Saturday is a potential return date, although by that point who knows where the Nationals’ playoff chances will stand.

Before he was drafted, there was a lot of scouts talking about his delivery…’reverse loading’ or something, that spoke to future arm problems. It is such a science these days, but still half the pitchers in MLB have had TJ, and despite the predictions on Stras, I know the Nats have reaped tons of attention and would still do it over again if given the chance. Might be another TJ in his future, and if so, they better correct whatever is wrong with his delivery and see if he can salvage a once brilliant future

Wasn’t it talk about the W motion that some pitchers have? I think people (after the fact) said the same thing about Mark Prior. Hopefully this is just some end of season soreness for Strasburg. Much as I want the Nats to fail, I want it to happen on the field and not because of injuries.

Why are the Nationals shuttin him down again? didun they shut him down last year so he’s could be ready for the pennant this year?

Guess they should’ve rolled with him in the playoffs last year. Shutting him down certainly hasn’t helped him stay healthy. Gotta go for the title when it’s in front of you.

so much brilliant hindsight! meanwhile these same people were probably outraged that mike shanahan left RG3 in to play in the playoffs last season. gotta go for the title when it’s in front of you, right?
