Celebrating Pirates fan jumps into the Allegheny River

Oct 2, 2013, 8:43 AM EDT

And his friend stupidly held his phone vertically when taking this video, but we’ll let that go for a moment:

Pittsburgh: you finally got your playoff moment and victory. The jubilation is understandable. As long as you keep it nice and happy and harmless and as long as the worst among you cut out the garbage, we will be happy to watch you act silly for as long as the Pirates are in the playoffs.

But please: hold the phone horizontally when documenting it for we outsiders. Makes it way easier.

Also: don’t let me tell you what to do, but I’d maybe reconsider how much time you spend in the Allegheny River.

They won a wild card playoff game, not the World Series. Pissburgh fans need only the slightest excuse to act like idiots.

      Don’t be sour, pickles.

      • baseballici0us - Oct 2, 2013 at 10:16 AM

hahaha! Sorry, that was good word-play

      • mdpickles - Oct 2, 2013 at 11:59 AM

Wow, never heard that one before!

      • historiophiliac - Oct 2, 2013 at 2:02 PM

        Yea! Sarcaspickles!

People who take vertically-oriented videos (unless there is an obvious reason for it) should be given Zack Morris cell phones, for that is all they are capable of using

I suppose the phrase act like you’ve been there before doesn’t apply to a team that has been so awful for so long. Congrats to the Pirates, but keep in mind they just beat a slumping team in a 1 game series. The real test is about to begin.

I remember the last time they made the playoffs and could not even sell out post season games with Bonds and Bobby Bo tearing the cover off the ball. Terrible fanbase.

No, you’re thinking of the Braves’ playoff games – their stadium always had a couple thousand empty seats. I don’t recall the Pirates (or Steelers or Penguins) ever failing to sell out a home playoff game. Not since the early 70’s when I started watching. Usually it’s nearly impossible to get a ticket.

I hope he wasn’t attacked by the Allegheny Freshwater Octopus. Apparently, biologists used to snicker about the idea that there was some kind of monster in the river attacking people until they figured out this thing exists and attacks relatively unprovoked….

Couple years ago I got 10th row LL tickets to the divisional round game vs the Ravens…on ticketmaster, a few days before the game. I guess all the front-runner Stillers fans didn’t know it was a Saturday game.

    It’s been a long time since I jumped in a Great Lake…

  8. steelbeast725 - Oct 2, 2013 at 10:28 AM

Act like we been there? Us fans haven’t been there in 21 years for heavens sake. So yeah were super pumped as a fan base even over a wild card game. And let’s not act like other fans of other teams don’t do stupid sh!t in celebration.

  9. Jason @ IIATMS - Oct 2, 2013 at 10:52 AM

Hey, I’m totally in favor of fans doing stupid sh!t (to themselves only), win or lose. Don’t stab anyone or anything worse, but if you want to risk your own life for my personal giggles, have at it. The sooner that gene pool goes dry the better. But until then, jump off bridges all you want. And video it, properly, dammit.

Just don’t put anyone else at risk, because then you’re just being an ass.

Oh and if you DO just in the river, you should have to pay for the police and rescue servicemen/women who drag you out. Alive or dead.

Portrait monitors for text document work are awesome. Video, no.

  11. moogro - Oct 2, 2013 at 1:30 PM

Wow. Was that alcohol those youths were on? That stuff is dangerous. I’m glad they outlawed that stuff first. Imagine how many would die or get injured if they allowed people to sell that on every corner?
