ALDS Game 2: Tigers-Athletics lineups

Oct 5, 2013, 5:30 PM EDT

Jim Leyland, Bob Melvin AP AP

Tigers and Athletics lineups for Game 2 of the ALDS, at Coliseum. First pitch is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. ET …

CF Austin Jackson
RF Torii Hunter
3B Miguel Cabrera
1B Prince Fielder
DH Victor Martinez
C Alex Avila
2B Omar Infante
LF Don Kelly
SS Jose Iglesias

SP Justin Verlander

I speculated this morning that we might see Jhonny Peralta in left field rather than Andy Dirks, but it’s actually Kelly who will get the start. Dirks had some bad at-bats last night, so it’s not surprising to see him sitting, but it appears that Jim Leyland isn’t willing to gamble with Peralta in left quite yet. Otherwise, everything is the same as Game 1.

CF Coco Crisp
SS Jed Lowrie
3B Josh Donaldson
1B Brandon Moss
LF Yoenis Cespedes
DH Seth Smith
RF Josh Reddick
C Stephen Vogt
2B Eric Sogard

SP Sonny Gray

Confirming suspicions from this morning, Daric Barton is on the bench for Game 2 while Brandon Moss will play first base. Meanwhile, Seth Smith will get the start out of the designated hitter spot. The top five spots in the lineup are the same as last night, but Smith moves into the No. 6 spot while Reddick and Vogt both move down.

    Donnie Kelly Baby!

Every time I hyperventilate about a Don Kelly start, he usually does something significant…but I still am not in love with it.

While I am scared to put Martinez at C, I would strongly consider it in order to get Peralta at DH. I expect he will make his way into the game at some point but I am not willing to substitute Iglesias at SS, and I have no desire to watch Delmon Young level defense in the playoffs again at LF.

Good Lord. I know Tui was in a little slump there towards the end of the season, but how can you pick Kelly over him for your roster? Sigh.

I think they should stick to putting Peralta in to PH late in the game — he would be okay to replace Iggy then. Better that than OF, in my opinion.
