This recent trend of family member national anthems gets the HardballTalk seal of approval.

Andrew McCutchen‘s mom Petrina belted it out before the Pirates’ NL Wild Card Game win over the Reds on Tuesday night in Pittsburgh and now Roger Mooney of the Tampa Tribune reports that Julianna Zobrist — the wife of Rays star Ben Zobrist — will perform “The Star Spangled Banner” before Monday’s ALDS Game 3 against the Red Sox in Tampa Bay.

Julianna Zobrist is a professional singer in the Christian Pop genre. Ben uses this track of hers as his walkup song:

The Rays are down 0-2 in their best-of-five with Boston. Game 3’s matchup is Clay Buchholz vs. Alex Cobb.

No disrespect, but I’m about to disrespect you. I understand that us his wife’s song, but that is not a walk up song.

Seriously. I hope he talked her into doing some of the weird stuff in exchange for that.

Quick poll: Who would you rather? Julianna Zobrist or Dallas Latos?

    • Old Gator - Oct 6, 2013 at 5:30 PM

That’s really a choice between class and expertise, isn’t it? Let me think about this….

    • historiophiliac - Oct 6, 2013 at 6:21 PM

      Torii Hunter.

      Dammit!

The good/bad news is that the odds that TBS will actually show this live are roughly equal to those of the Marlins winning it all next year.

    • jarathen - Oct 7, 2013 at 8:28 AM

Less playoff atmosphere! More talking heads!

      • nothanksimdriving123 - Oct 7, 2013 at 6:35 PM

Absolutely. In fact, if you really want to capture the thrills and magic of a playoff game, shut off the TV and wait for tomorrow’s newspaper.

As long as she looks like that at night, I can go to Denny’s.

  8. genericcommenter - Oct 6, 2013 at 9:31 PM

She’s no Dallas Latos, but she has a decent set of lungs.

  9. drone501 - Oct 6, 2013 at 9:51 PM

is that a cat on her head?

    • jarathen - Oct 7, 2013 at 8:29 AM

You’re so ignorant. It’s obviously some kind of blackbird.

“Christian pop” is code for “not good enough to come close to getting on the radio but we will sub the word ‘jesus’ in for ‘baby’ and hopefully moronic christians will buy it because it has the word ‘christian’ in front of it”
