David Price bashes TBS baseball show

Oct 6, 2013, 9:00 AM EDT

David Price was lit up for seven earned runs in seven-plus innings Saturday as the Rays allowed the Red Sox to take a 2-0 ALDS lead. Price must have tuned into the TBS postgame show after his outing because this is what he tweeted to his more than 180,000 followers late Saturday night:

The show — featuring Hayhurst, Verducci, Keith Olbermann, Pedro Martinez and Mark DeRosa — has actually been refreshingly entertaining for a studio analysis program. And their takes on Price’s poor start were far from controversial. Price — a Vanderbilt man — should be able to do better than “SAVE IT NERDS.”

So apparently the arrogance of the team’s manager filters down to its players.

I’d rather be called a NERD over a WHINING PUZZY, anyday.

Are you trying to insult someone by saying they’re a vagina when you don’t even have the balls to say the word? Bad ass.

      • anthonyverna - Oct 6, 2013 at 5:29 PM

Well, we know the problem with the jock culture is that vagina = bad.

We also know that the problem with the jock culture is that there is no ability to take criticism from anyone other than a jock.

      • historiophiliac - Oct 6, 2013 at 6:03 PM

Well, you can’t really take criticism from another jock either, and then you have to start a (Twitter) fight with them (or their wife) because they’re not following the unwritten rules and playing the right way.

So freaking true. We love our macho little boys despite themselves.

      • anthonyverna - Oct 7, 2013 at 12:39 AM

Is “Don’t take it from HBT to Twitter” an unwritten rule?

Anyone have a mailing address for Price – gotta send a brick of cheese to go with that whine !

  4. peterjohnjoseph - Oct 6, 2013 at 1:43 PM

This is actually the second time he called the reporters nerds last night. He didn’t like the questions coming from the reporters after the game and walked away calling them nerds. I actually thought that was what this report was about. I guess he was really into this nerd thing last night..

I always enjoy the notion that people who can’t physically do something can’t understand the concepts and ideas behind being able to do it, thus can’t criticize.

Criticism should only come from ones equals or betters.

In fact, if I was David, I wouldn’t even bother listening to Joe Maddon. According to his bio: “He is a former minor league catcher, who never advanced higher than A ball, which he played for four seasons. In his four seasons, he never had more than 180 at bats, and the most home runs he ever hit was three for Salinas in 1977.”

Pfff….What’s a minor league catcher know about playing major league baseball?

It’s just like when I would criticize my ex’s ability to hit the toilet bowl. I don’t need a dingus to understand filling the pond from the hose. Plus, I was better at execution than him any day.

      • negaduck - Oct 6, 2013 at 8:15 PM

Women just don’t understand this concept.

It isn’t that men can’t hit the bowl. It goes into the bowl and some splashes back out.

A person that cares will take some paper and wipe off any stray droplets, though.

This helpful message is brought you by Charmin.

And I’m sure most agents and GMs have no MLB experience at all, and probably never got past little league. Yet they’re the ones who determine how much Price is worth. He must really hate that.

  6. poprox13 - Oct 6, 2013 at 3:21 PM

    more whining from Price? Priceless

  7. theskinsman - Oct 6, 2013 at 3:21 PM

I hope the very talented Price sometime actually grows the hell up. maybe Wil Myers can teach this fool how to be a man?

  8. stpatsbaby - Oct 6, 2013 at 5:04 PM

It’s hard for Joe Maddon to teach his team about class when he has none himself. David Price is a chronic whiner, and will be no matter where he plays and we shouldn’t expect more from him, because it just isn’t there.

  9. uueyell - Oct 7, 2013 at 9:51 AM

He didn’t have anything to say about Pedro? He’s pretty short and has a perm……and 3 cy youngs and a world series ring..

  10. redmanrt - Oct 8, 2013 at 6:23 AM

Price is overpaid. But no matter, he’s leaving.
