We finally have an answer to the question of who the A’s will start in their decisive ALDS Game 5 against the Tigers on Thursday evening at O.Co Coliseum.

Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that it will be 23-year-old Sonny Gray rather than veteran Bartolo Colon. Gray had a 2.67 ERA in 64 regular-season innings and hurled eight scoreless innings in the A’s Game 2 win. Colon posted a 2.65 ERA in 190 1/3 regular-season innings — a much larger sample size — but the Tigers tagged him for three runs on 10 hits in his six-inning Game 1 defeat.

The winner of Thursday’s ALDS Game 5 will face the Red Sox in the best-of-seven ALCS.

Detroit will be starting ace right-hander Justin Verlander against Oakland.

Your Uncle Carson also has a lot of Kiddie Porn on that laptop, what’s your point?

Correction. Max is the Ace. Not Verlander.

Scherzer doesn’t have a Rookie of the Year award, nor a Cy Young award, nor an AL MVP award.

      • dtownbeatdown - Oct 10, 2013 at 10:19 AM

Scherzer doesn’t have the Cy Young award for this year…yet.

Scherzer doesn’t have a 200 million dollar contract either. Scherzer was and is the ace for the tigers this year.

Get em kid. Should be a great game. Go A’s!

  4. roylp - Oct 9, 2013 at 8:43 PM

HM look at what verlander has done to Oakland and then tell me who the ace is.

Indians manager said, “Detroit has 4 aces.” Francona’s has 2 rings which belies his credibility. Tigers are mired in an epic hitting slump. They had the no.2 offense, overall, the entire regular season. Tigers batters are making the A’s starters look better than they are, hopefully game 4 will end this offensive anemia.

Prince Fielder has done nothing this series, he was brought in for power; he has shown none. Ray Charles is batting lead-off, Jackson has 10 k’s in four games, with one BB. Miggy has a grade 2 sports hernia, which will probably require surgery to repair, reducing Detroit’s champion to a part-time singles hitter.

Tigers should be more concerned with their bats, plate approaches than the rookie they’ll see Thursday.

Royalp you’re an idiot. Clearly a moron.

Take it to ’em, Sonny! Go A’s!

In other shocking news, Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead.

Wow, something of a surprise, given El Capitan’s role with the team and Gray’s newbie status.

But, no question Gray is throwing the ball better at this moment.

    Let’s Go Oakland!

You were not seriously surprised. This means I got one prediction right! I hope now that we’ve seen the kid once, it goes better for us. Also, that we stop hacking at crap out of desperation.

      We both drinking tonight?

Game 5 forecast: Sonny With a Chance of Meatballs!

    • historiophiliac - Oct 10, 2013 at 10:24 AM

Boy, I hope he throws meatballs…

The Tigers will be getting a second look at this kid, so the outcome may be different. If they gained any confidence and momentum after game 4, then it could be a good game for Detroit. JV will do fine, but still concerned with the bullpen. Tigers need to find a way to keep Crips off of base, too. The guy is money for sure this series.

      Crisp, not Crips…sorry, it’s late.

      • jeffchadwick - Oct 10, 2013 at 9:15 AM

There’s a bloods joke to be made here, but I’m not quite positive what it should be.

      • Minoring In Baseball - Oct 10, 2013 at 11:40 PM

        Just a ‘type-o’, nothing more!

  12. papacrick - Oct 10, 2013 at 11:54 AM

Love the name Sonny Gray. Dude sounds like a straight up gangster.. With that being said, go Tigers!

  13. roseann894 - Oct 10, 2013 at 11:56 AM

Gray’s the better choice. Oliver Hardy’s steroids are beginning to wear off.

  14. moogro - Oct 10, 2013 at 1:09 PM

Would have started Colon on a very short leash, with Gray on relief since he throws harder.
