UPDATE: Allen Craig likely not available for the NLCS

UPDATE: Nope, likely not happening. Mike Matheny just said it was doubtful Craig will be on the roster.

9:27 AM: Allen Craig missed the NLDS due to an injured foot. Matt Adams filled in nicely, going 6 for 19 with a double and a homer.  But Craig is hoping to be back for the NLCS showdown with the Dodgers, reports Derrick Goold of the Post-Dispatch.

Based on the article it sounds more like Craig wishcasting than a reality, and the Cardinals themselves aren’t holding their breath. Still, if Craig could be available even for random pinch-hitting duties, it would be a plus for St. Louis. Not that they really need the help. The team is basically stacked.

May look ok in nlcs but if they make it to World Series then St. Louis will be in desperate need of a DH. W/O Craig, were lookin at freese or Beltran at DH and Robinson or descalso in the lineup. Ugh….

The starting lineup is pretty well stacked, but we really have zero big bats on the bench. Having Craig available to pinch hit could come up HUGE.

    “Wishcasting”?

Is that a prerequisite for, “dream catching”?

I’ll go with “humbugging” on the possibility of Craig making any significant contribution going forward this year.

Same here. It would be nice to have his bat off the bench if he can run, but if he can’t, we’re basically using two players for one at-bat; Craig to hit and someone to pinch run for him.

And what else are we going to use Adron Chambers for, exactly?

You never know; injuries can and do happen, not to mention that Holliday attracts moths in the post season.

Yeah, the DH scenario is the most attractive, but with 3 lefties in the Dodger rotation, his right-hand stick would sure be nice.
