For reasons I explained last week, heads never roll in Atlanta. Sometimes people get transferred and reassigned, however. And today the Braves announced that third base coach Brian Snitker has been reassigned to AAA Gwinnett, where he will be the manager.  Manager. Roving instructor Doug Dascenzo is the new big league third base coach.

No word on what happened to Randy Ready, the Gwinnett Braves’ former manager. Perhaps he will become the new Braves setup man and will handle high-leverage situations when there are between six and four outs remaining in playoff games.

When you strike out as much as the Braves and when you do so poorly with runners in scoring position like the Braves, it is difficult to blame the third base coach. Reassign Gonzalez and Wren. Both are liabilities to the organization. Also, it might be a good idea to eat Uggla’s contract. Too bad Wren stuck the team with the older Upton for so long. No team is fool enough to want him. In fact, if possible, it would be a good move to get rid of both Uptons.

@Craig – “For reasons I explained last week, heads never roll in Atlanta.”

Maybe the organization believes that, as long as they are relatively successful and profitable, they shouldn’t be demolishing people’s families and careers over a lost game here or there.

    Crazy, I know.

The braves have made a lot of outs on the basepaths in recent years that most teams are able to avoid. Making poor decisions on when to try for third was a particular weakness as well as being decoyed both by infielders and outfielders this year. There were also a lot of poor decisions made on whether to hit the cutoff or make a try for a runner at a base that extended innings. Dascenzo is both an outfield coach and a baserunning coach and should be able to help out in both situations.
