The scariest tweet Dodgers fans will ever see

Oct 14, 2013, 5:15 PM EDT

It’s bad that Hanley Ramirez has broken ribs. But it could be worse. And, depending on his health and the health of Nick Punto, it may actually get worse:

Lots of teams have come back from an 0-2 deficit. Lots of teams have survived losing key parts of their offense. But if the Dodgers find themselves in a situation where they have Michael Young playing shortstop for anything approaching an extended period of time, hoo boy.

    LMFAO.

  2. dannymac17 - Oct 14, 2013 at 5:42 PM

    How wonderful. Smh

  3. jarathen - Oct 14, 2013 at 5:49 PM

Oh, Dodgers. Treating shortstop like Boston treats Ortiz in NL games.

  4. apkyletexas - Oct 14, 2013 at 6:08 PM

Just move Ellis to short. Puig thinks he can cover everything from 2nd base to the rightfield fence anyway. Let him take a try at it.

  5. sandrafluke2012 - Oct 14, 2013 at 6:10 PM

Umm. He has a gold glove

    • losangelesfan - Oct 14, 2013 at 6:30 PM

So does Ozzie Smith. I don’t want either of them starting at short.

    • cur68 - Oct 14, 2013 at 6:37 PM

That’s some funny shit, right there.

    • Reflex - Oct 14, 2013 at 6:38 PM

Jeter has a collection of them. Yet at no time was he ever an elite defensive shortstop.

    • churchoftheperpetuallyoutraged - Oct 14, 2013 at 7:46 PM

So does Rafael Palmeiro, after playing 28 total games at first base one year.

  6. sdemp - Oct 14, 2013 at 6:22 PM

You make it sound like the man forgot how to play baseball. . . he may not have the same range as 10 years ago, but I’m sure he can still field a grounder.

    • 4d3fect - Oct 14, 2013 at 6:25 PM

“a” grounder. Singular. Think he’s done that now.

    • eightyraw - Oct 14, 2013 at 6:49 PM

As long as it his hit right at him. Otherwise he will just dive as the ball goes past.

  7. twenty1miles - Oct 14, 2013 at 6:24 PM

I’m not a Dodgers fan but I thought maybe someone was injured or something. Well done, Craig.

The hate for Michael Young on this blog is unfathomable. Been that for years…. I don’t understand why

    • Reflex - Oct 14, 2013 at 6:40 PM

Nobody here hates him. They just refuse to play into the common narratives about him. By most accounts Michael Young is a nice player, a good teammate and was an above average hitter for most of his career. But he was not the Texas version of Jeter as a teammate and offensive force, nor was he ever even slightly above average defensively. Its not ‘hate’ to point those things out given the deification most other outlets seem to heap upon him.

      • pike573 - Oct 14, 2013 at 9:59 PM

“deification”… I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone describe Michael Young other than you just described him. Which is to say, decent player, long career but certainly not worth “scariest tweet you will ever see”

      • Reflex - Oct 15, 2013 at 1:56 AM

So you haven’t read much Michael Young coverage then…

  9. 18thstreet - Oct 14, 2013 at 6:25 PM

Is this like how Mariano Rivera liked to shag flyballs in center? Or how you sometimes see the players’ preschool kids playing catch on the field?

What a heartwarming tale. A slice of life in the grand old game. Because there’s no way he’s the best option the Dodgers — a team with a $12 billion payroll — have no better backup option at shortstop.

  10. hep3 - Oct 14, 2013 at 6:28 PM

Could Michael Young be any worse than the Tigers using Mickey Stanley at shortstop in the 1968 World Series?

  11. cur68 - Oct 14, 2013 at 6:37 PM

Get ready for it folks. Learn your acronyms in advance.

PADMY= Past A Diving Michael Young

OALMY= Over A Leaping Michael Young

    BBMY= Booted By Michael Young

TITDBMY=Thrown Into The Dugout By Michael Young

    and the very well used:

EBMY= Error By Michael Young (AKA: E6)

    • stex52 - Oct 14, 2013 at 9:07 PM

Well done, Cur. Especially TITDBMY. That seems replete with a thousand other possibilities.

  12. dubyad3 - Oct 14, 2013 at 8:49 PM

Been a Rangers fan all my life…..trust me….defensively you could have a lot worse people filling the hole. No he’s not a jester or an Andrus but he’s solid. His bat on the other hand……

  13. mkprz - Oct 15, 2013 at 3:42 AM

    Michael Young.
$18,000,000 a year to hit into double plays?
Where can I sign up for that?
