Cal Ripken Jr.’s mom is victim of holdup in parking lot

Violet “Vi” Ripken, who was kidnapped and later returned last year, was assaulted in a bank parking lot on Aberdeen, Maryland on Tuesday, WBAL news reports.

The report states that Vi Ripken, 75, was unhurt in the incident and that an arrest has been made.

Vi Ripken is the widow of former major league manager Cal Ripken and mother of Hall of Famer Cal Jr. and fellow Orioles infielder Billy. Last July, she was kidnapped, only to be returned unharmed 24 hours later. The perpetrators of that crime were never caught. That she was targeted then because of the family’s money seems to be given. Whether this was a random crime or if she was targeted again is unclear.

Cal Jr. is still expected to be in the TBS booth for Tuesday night’s NLCS Game 4.

Where does she live? Does she need security? It seems she is always in the middle of trouble.

Wish these f*ckfaces would just let the old lady shop for groceries in peace.

        ’89 Fleer, peeps.

Don’t worry, I got it. And you’re probably onto something. Billy might actually need some money.

That’s one old lady I wouldn’t mess with.

Something is really weird about this. Why doesn’t she move or get a bodyguard? Not like they couldn’t afford it.

  4. beefytrout - Oct 15, 2013 at 6:50 PM

who was the f*ck face that did this?

  5. seanb20124 - Oct 15, 2013 at 6:52 PM

This is like 30 miles from Bmore, usually low crime area I would suspect

    • 8man - Oct 15, 2013 at 8:26 PM

There aren’t too many low crime areas in the Baltimore area. Only lower crime areas relative to Baltimore itself.

Someday, we’ll get our sh!t together and do what is necessary to remove the element and the undesirables.

      • nothanksimdriving123 - Oct 15, 2013 at 11:04 PM

8man says “remove the element and the undesirables,” having evidently achieved the magic trick of having pre-identified everyone who will commit a crime in the next several years. Only question is will 8man patent the formula to cash in, or generously share it with US law enforcement for the public good? Stay tuned.

I live about 10 minutes from the heart of Aberdeen. Definitely not the greatest place to be. One of the roughest areas in Harford County, which is about 40 minutes east of the city.

Dammit, hasn’t the woman been through enough?

  7. cohnjusack - Oct 15, 2013 at 7:19 PM

Damn, that’s some bad luck to come so shortly after a friggin’ kidnapping.

My favorite (by favorite I mean “most awful” ) string of bad luck came from my brother many years ago. No exaggeration, this all occurred in the span of 1 week.

    1. Rear-ended on a city road by a drunk going 55 in a 30 (he was okay…the car was not)
    2. Mugged while leaving the gym by two men. In what is the dumbest move you can do in a mugging, he decked one of the muggers. He fell, the other mugger ran away. As the the mugger he hit started to get up, he lept on top and starting pummeling him. Police arrive and arrested my brother where he was in a holding cell for 12 hours before it was finally made clear that he was the victim.
    3. Rental car gets rear-ended, causing significant damage.
    4. Gets replacement rental car. Goes outside to go to work to find car is not in driveway. It was stolen. (It was found a day later).

    Leave Vi alone!

  9. billhicks666 - Oct 15, 2013 at 8:09 PM

Wow, I feel bad for ol’ Vi. That being said, she needs to change that hairdo. She looks like an old lesbian.

    • simjef - Oct 15, 2013 at 8:19 PM

Dude, that somebody’s mother you’re talking about. If you lived in my neighborhoodI’d beat your ass for saying that

      • billhicks666 - Oct 15, 2013 at 8:33 PM

Yeah, sure you would, Mr. Internet Tough Guy. Blow it out your a$$.

  10. 8man - Oct 15, 2013 at 8:25 PM

WTF? I live around here. I have no explanation other than we don’t do a good job in Maryland when it comes to putting down pieces of garbage that target senior women. Surprised as hell it happened in Aberdeen.

Clearly it’s time to get her some protection when she bumps around the ‘Deen or HdG.

Must be one of Obama’s sons

    • js20011041 - Oct 15, 2013 at 9:35 PM

I don’t get the hatred of Obama. I really don’t. He’s the least liberal democratic president we’ve had in, what, at least a half century?

    • ghostofjimlindeman - Oct 15, 2013 at 10:29 PM

Then go win an election you ignorant POS. Nice racist comment you troll douchebag.

      • dexterismyhero - Oct 16, 2013 at 12:08 PM

    • stex52 - Oct 16, 2013 at 10:31 AM

Why do you guys feed this obvious troll. Ignore is the way to go. They don’t get attention they go somewhere else.

  12. titansbro - Oct 15, 2013 at 9:23 PM

She needs to just stay home.

  13. jerruhjones - Oct 15, 2013 at 9:34 PM

    Stay classy Baltimore!

  14. jacobk621 - Oct 15, 2013 at 10:07 PM

TBS sure must be paying Cal alot of money to call the game tonite cause if that was my mom I’d be on the first flight home ASAP !!

  15. bigbenh8tr - Oct 16, 2013 at 12:17 AM

This is terrible, but not very surprising since it is within 30 minutes of Baltimore. Disgusting crime ridden city

  16. atmsafetypin - Oct 16, 2013 at 8:59 AM

The first time involved an ATM as well. ATMs are dangerous. That’s why the banks won’t tell you how many people are murdered each year for their ATM card and PIN. http://atmsafetypin.wordpress.com/2013/07/19/8/
