Maria Peguero, wife of Mariners outfielder Carlos Peguero, is facing federal wire-fraud charges for making nearly $180,000 worth of online purchases on a debit card belonging to Sandra Hernandez, wife of Mariners right-hander Felix Hernandez, the Seattle Times is reporting.

The article, which really should be read in whole, tells of court documents showing Maria Peguero had nearly $180,000 of merchandise from Saks Fifth Avenue delivered to her last year after gaining access to an undisclosed person’s debit card. The Seattle Times says the card belonged to Sandra Hernandez. Maria Peguero had stayed at Hernandez’s house in 2012, and the two reportedly did some online shopping.

Carlos Peguero, who has hit .195 with nine homers and 84 strikeouts in 205 at-bats in parts of three seasons with the Mariners, denied any knowledge of his wife’s alleged purchases. Maria Peguero is the daughter of the late Pedro Borbon and sister of fellow former major leaguer Pedro Borbon Jr.

Maria Peguero was also arrested in 2010 for shoplifting from a T.J. Maxx, so at least she seems to be moving up in the world. Best of all, the email address she used for her purchases and had linked to her twitter: versacegoldbarbie@yahoo.com.

That’ll make for a comfortable clubhouse.

Gold Digging Rule 3a. If you’re sugar daddy baseball player husband isn’t doing so well, take what you can from another Gold Digger whose husband is playing better. They can afford it.

You believe they’re gold diggers because you hate women. sorry.

    • indaburg - Oct 19, 2013 at 10:10 AM

When someone quite literally steals from another and her email address is versacegoldbarbie, call me judgmental, but I may think she’s a gold digger.

      • raysfan1 - Oct 19, 2013 at 11:02 AM

Ms Peguero can reasonably be called a gold digger, but the commenter above labelled Ms Hernandez as one as well, which was not fair.

    • peterjohnjoseph - Oct 19, 2013 at 12:21 PM

Because to believe I’m serious is also to believe that I believe there is a book of rules for gold diggers…

Man, me and my stereotyping… Thats like me guessing just because you have “jesus” in your name that you must be from the South, and heckle people with god fearing assumptions at the slightest sign of indifference.. oh, wait.

…….Or me guessing you’re a WASP with Bible thumping preaching and misogynistic tendencies with names straight from the Bible with a user name like PeterJohnJoseph?!?

That said, it is a shame that someone would take advantage of someone’s limited English and steal money. Yes, I know, it happens all the time, but still, one expects more from your playing colleague and their family members. I don’t blame Mrs. Hernandez, but I certainly do question this third party firm they hired to handle their finances. Why didn’t they figure this out instead of the store? Fire the firm and hire another one more competent. Kudos to the store for noticing the differences in the billing and shipping addresses.

Hope she goes to prison for 20 years.

    Is she hot?

    • jason9696 - Oct 19, 2013 at 4:19 PM

Felix’s wife is definitely NOT hot. I just saw a few pictures of her. I’m not sure how hot the thief is.

  5. rje49 - Oct 19, 2013 at 8:11 AM

So Maria is the daughter of Pedro Borbon, but the brother of Pedro Borbon Jr.??? Hmmm.

    • yahmule - Oct 19, 2013 at 12:17 PM

During a bench clearing brawl against Pittsburgh, Pedro Borbon bit one of the Pirates.

If you’re the 25th guy on a big league roster, one of the last things you need is your wife thieving from a future Hall of Famer.

Memo to Felix- whoever was the 3rd party paying your bills didn’t catch any of this? Pay your own bills, dude. Take a personal finance course and watch “Broke”, the ESPN 30 for 30 masterpiece.

The easier your numbers are to replace, the less of a pain in the ass you’d better be. Carlos is probably- and rightfully- concerned about his future with the M’s. Felix can’t like this story getting out.

I still don’t know why most of these guys get married during their careers. It’s like bringing sand to the beach. When she starts messing with your livelihood, it’s time to seriously reevaluate, Carlos.

    • herkulease - Oct 19, 2013 at 6:51 PM

There are multiple failures that lead to this.

      1. Felix’s wife never reviews her bills. A 3rd party does. Which likely suggests she goes on huge shopping sprees that they did not notice as being unusual.

      2. Saks Fifth Ave, didn’t notice for that the billing and shipping addresses don’t match. These are online purchases. They have no way to tell the difference between regular person, some mega rich person, or a just scammer. You would think for purchases that at time ran up to 11K they’d check with the bank on it.

      • psychodoc03 - Oct 20, 2013 at 11:07 AM

Let’s see what’s wrong with your comment here –

        1) she has limited English, which means she probably doesn’t understand the bills or monetary conversion which is probably why FELIX or HIS MANAGER hired a third party firm in the first place (I believe King Felix travels a lot, correct, and makes millions – and spends money on the road) and why she enlisted Peguro’s wife to help her shop online and why she was able to steal so easily. And depending on what she spoke (Spanish (and which dialect), Portugese, etc)), our system would not be easy to decipher. So, rather than blame the victim, how about place the blame where it belongs, which is on Peguro.

        2) you can’t place all the blame on Saks either. Their job IS to make money! Be glad that they actually did check. The BANK is the one that should have checked. I made a purchase on my credit card from a store in Australia. My BANK called me within 10 minutes to see if I had made the purchase.

Think before you make such comments. It is not easy for foreigners when they come to the US, just like it is not easy for us to navigate in foreign countries.

I bet Felix and his wife banged Maria.

  8. patrickcody - Oct 19, 2013 at 10:46 AM

    Is the email still active?

  9. drone501 - Oct 19, 2013 at 10:57 AM

what a snake in the grass. he got to cut her loose. but it makes you wonder, didn’t he notice all the merchandise she was purchasing? THIS WASN’T JUST A SHOPPING SPREE AT WALMART.

    • bfunk1978 - Oct 19, 2013 at 12:24 PM

Some of the most expensive items you can buy are teeny-tiny. Gold and diamonds that maybe he just didn’t catch.

    LOLOL……!

  11. provguard - Oct 19, 2013 at 4:45 PM

As a Mariner, messing with King Felix might be fatal to a baseball career….

So sad that people get their hand eaten off just trying to help a friend or relative…

She should’ve started with a glove and a bat first.
