World Series umpires announced

John Hirschbeck will lead the umpiring crew for the World Series, Major League Baseball just announced.  Joining him will be Dana DeMuth,  Jim Joyce, Paul Emmel, Bill Miller and Mark Wegner.

Hirschbeck — who skews a bit pitcher friendly — was the crew chief for the All-Star Game too. During this past season he had a couple of minor run-ins with youngsters Yasiel Puig and Bryce Harper. Fortunately, though, there are no untamed horses or undisciplined kids in this year’s World Series who need to be reminded of their place.

Totally agree. Joyce is a great choice (I feel like Dr. Seuss…).

I like Hirschbeck also. The other guys I don’t know (Which maybe bodes well for them, right? Umpires are supposed to be invisible.) :)

Good crew with a bunch of great guys. They will do a good job.

Amen, FC. For all our sakes….

I wish there was a fifth umpire watching the game on television.

No Worries. Everybody does it from time to time. Noticing it and correcting it is cool though.

When I saw this my first reaction was “Good, no Joe West or Angel Hernandez to create their usual circus”

    • wfs266 - Oct 22, 2013 at 4:40 PM

I was holding my breath when I read the headline. Very thankful we won’t have that windbag trying to steal the show.

A part of me wishes that MLB had announced Wally Bell as one of the six and that one of these guys was replacing him.

I’m cool as Jim Joyce gets a turn behind the plate:

I listened to jim powell doing a radio broadcast with don sutton one night. I cannot remember which of the two it was but one of them asked “Did he just point at the on deck hitter and call him a donkee” in reference to a long drawn out strike call.

Thank god Joe West and Angel Hernandez didnt get the nod for the world series they both are terrible and the game is all about them.

  7. davemvh - Oct 22, 2013 at 8:20 PM

Joe West is home trying to find MORE ways to destroy the strike zone parameters, and Angel has been deported and demoted to little league ump in his home town of Iwanajumpthefence, mexico.
