No surprise, but manager Mike Matheny told reporters this afternoon that Lance Lynn will start Game 4 for the Cardinals.

Lynn also started Game 4 of the NLCS versus the Dodgers, throwing 5.1 innings and allowing two runs in a 4-2 victory matched up against Ricky Nolasco.

There had been some thought to bringing back Adam Wainwright on short rest to start Game 4, but instead he’ll be lined up for Game 5 followed by Michael Wacha in Game 6 and Joe Kelly (and basically everyone else on the pitching staff) in a potential Game 7.

Not to get too far ahead of myself, nor predict or guarantee anything, but if the Cards happen to win Games #3 & #4, could the Cards entertain the thought of starting Miller in Game #5, giving Wainwright and Wacha another days rest, and save them for the more difficult task of pitching in Boston?

      Not a chance.

If they win 3 and 4 they go for the jugular with Waino at home in 5.

I am sure you are probably right, but I still don’t think the idea is absurd. Plus it gives Miller some post-season experience.

The World Series, especially a championship deciding game, is no time to build “experience”, post-season or otherwise.

The Cards win 3 and 4, they have a chance to finish it at Busch Stadium, and you want them to NOT pitch Adam Wainwright on regular rest?

Boy, you might be legally retarded.

        Actually I am illegally retarded.

new title should be “Lance Lynn will lose Game 4 for the Cardinals”

Sox pitching isn’t exactly ironclad at the 4th starter position, either. Could be an interesting game.

Lynn must have pictures of Mike Matheny in compromising positions with farm animals…

Yeah…my thoughts as well Grubb. But it worked the last time…so why not?
He will have a short leash to be sure. L.L….not the farm animals. They roam free.
And strangely…they all back up when they see a stump.

i know there is speculation that Shelby is tired or was wearing down……….but really -he’s a 22 year old kid–how worn down could he be? plus now he has had plenty of rest. I say start him in place of Lynn
