Red Sox outfielder Shane Victorino has been pulled from manager John Farrell’s starting lineup for Game 4 of the World Series due to lower back tightness, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. The updated Red Sox starting lineup:

Jacoby Ellsbury, CF

Daniel Nava, RF

Dustin Pedroia, 2B

David Ortiz, 1B

Jonny Gomes, LF

Xander Bogaerts, 3B

Stephen Drew, SS

David Ross, C

Clay Buchholz, P

The Cardinal lineup remains unchanged as posted here.

Somethings been wrong with him.. you can tell just by the way he’s reaching for balls when he’s batting and watching them go 20 feet, when this guy was one of the clutchest hitters the Sox had during the regular season.

Ok, now you can all resume with your hit by pitch jokes.

Probably hurt it while trying to lean into a pitch during bp.

The injury is no doubt due to one of the 1,732 times he’s been hit by a pitch in recent weeks.

Recent weeks? How about the entire year?

I know its fun to talk about the hit by pitches, but this guy has been hurt all season for a lot more than that. Running into walls, ending up in the front row of the stands. Playing with a hip injury that forced him to bat righty for the first time against right handed pitching in the first place, a thumb injury.. It was only a matter of time.

Now every saber-snob can finally exhale with Nava hitting 2nd.

I did.. then I saw who was protecting Ortiz and I had to hold my breathe again.

    This lineup is really bleak.

Seriously, who ever thought “Batting 5th in Game 4 of the World Series will be Jonny Gomes” would ever be a sentence that was put together?

    Seriously….put Bogearts 2nd, Nava 5th, Gomes 6th.

And then put Drew on a bus to Canada.

    • cur68 - Oct 27, 2013 at 7:28 PM

Hey man. My boys got plenty of dudes that don’t hit as it is. We don’t need a Drew to do that for us.

      • tfbuckfutter - Oct 27, 2013 at 7:30 PM

I meant a bus to Saskatchewan.

      • cur68 - Oct 27, 2013 at 7:34 PM

They’ll see him coming over the curve of the Earth and start a shootin’ at him with varmint rifles. I don’t mean to suggest that Stephen Drew is a bad person or some sort of plague, but I’m not sure what the stubble jumping denizens of Sasky would want with him other than as target practice for when its gopher season again. Better rig him in a Ned Kelly suit ‘fore you ship him out.

      • tfbuckfutter - Oct 27, 2013 at 7:46 PM

Once he’s on the bus I don’t care what happens to him.

I don’t even care if the bus has a bathroom, or if it does I don’t care if there’s a constant stream of people leaving growlers in it for the entire length of the trip and the bus windows don’t open.

Dude needs a game-winning homer at this point to even be tolerable, and he needs two of them for me to give a shit what happens to him after this season.

bogarts needs to be moved up. Is Farrell woried about hurting his guys feelings?

  9. drelms - Oct 28, 2013 at 11:58 AM

Drew has not been batting well lately, he didn’t really bat well all year, but he does have the second best fielding percentage of any shortstop this year. Baseball has two parts, hitting and fielding, and it seems like most people commenting here are judging him just by his hitting. We have got some crazy number of guys for hitting, I mean every time Gomes,Victorino, Papi, Napoli, and Pedroia come up to the plate you never know if the ball is going to stay in the yard. We have more than enough to be grateful for regarding hitters, let’s all lay off of Drew’s lack of hitting, we have got a World Series to win and any of our guys has the potential to be the hero.
