Boston PD asks fans without tickets and not in bars to leave the area around Fenway Park

Oct 30, 2013, 10:36 PM EDT

The Red Sox are well on their way to winning a World Series championship at home for the first time in 95 years. So we’re guessing this order from the Boston Police Department might be ignored …

The Red Sox lead the Cardinals in Game 6 by a score of 6-1. It’s the top of the seventh inning.

UPDATE, 10:45 p.m. ET: Apparently the Boston PD isn’t messing around. Via Ted Berg …

I’d tell them to learn to spell, and then maybe I’ll comply.

Um, this is still the US, right?

    • thebadguyswon - Oct 30, 2013 at 11:10 PM

Yeah no shit, eh? Jesus christ.

While Americans have the freedom to assemble, some restrictions apply. For example, a rowdy mob typically can’t clog public streets without a parade permit.

I know it sucks, and hope the police are there more for crowd control than active suppression, but that riot squad is as American as apple pie.

      • clydeserra - Oct 31, 2013 at 2:38 PM

sure. but the there was no rowdy mob. the police were telling people to leave before anything happened.

they can’t do that here. you can do it in saudi arabia, but not here.

Sounds like a subtle way to remind people to be safe

Drunk celebrating fans sometimes do stupid things

  4. peterjohnjoseph - Oct 30, 2013 at 10:52 PM

So the idea is drunk unruly fans that will end up lighting cars on fire are on Twitter right now?

    • peterjohnjoseph - Oct 30, 2013 at 10:56 PM

“Mom, I don’t get it. Why do I have to pay for car insurance when my friends in New Hampshire don’t have to if they don’t want to?”

“Because the Red Sox, Bruins, and Patriots win a lot.”

      • raysfan1 - Oct 30, 2013 at 11:04 PM

        Celtics too, historically speaking.

      • peterjohnjoseph - Oct 30, 2013 at 11:07 PM

I realized I left the Celtics out the second I hit the button.

    • saintsfire - Oct 31, 2013 at 1:18 PM

      lol apparently so

  5. Stiller43 - Oct 30, 2013 at 11:02 PM

Good luck with that. If i were a fan in that area (and not breaking any laws), fat chance im missing that celebration

    • peterjohnjoseph - Oct 30, 2013 at 11:06 PM

Yet I’m a 20 minute train ride away, but too busy making witty jokes on here…

Honestly, I’ve been through this before, and while fun for a few minutes, it gets out of control fast, and then just becomes a pain in the ass trying to get back home. Its not like I’m getting in a bar. The funnest part is watching people get tasered by police.

  6. fnf417 - Oct 30, 2013 at 11:05 PM

The Red Sox are deserving of this World Series they are the better team

    • thebadguyswon - Oct 30, 2013 at 11:07 PM

Yeah, they really are. Not a fan, but they earned it.

  7. thebadguyswon - Oct 30, 2013 at 11:06 PM

And those IN the bars to start chilling the champagne.

  8. jcmeyer10 - Oct 30, 2013 at 11:07 PM

Be safe out there. I am on the South Shore, far away from the madness of Fenway but hope folks out there make the right decisions.

I went to Boston for Game 6 in 1986 to celebrate. That was a long ride home. I will jump around in my own house tonight. I don’t think anyone in the greater Fenway area will be rushing home to jump around in their own places tonight though.

Stay Classy New England. Fawk did I just type those words?

  11. herkulease - Oct 30, 2013 at 11:24 PM

I have always found it funny that sports fan trash their city because a group made mostly of millionaires won some sporting championship.

There’s almost always at least 1 car that goes up in flames or gets flipped over.

Boston P.D. doesn’t want Affleck, Reiner, &co. to rob “The Cathedral”. #The Town
