David Ortiz came in third in the Boston mayor race

David Ortiz wasn’t on the ballot on Tuesday — only two men were: Marty Walsh and John Connolly — but the Red Sox’ DH got the most write-in votes out of anyone, so that technically made him the third place finisher.

Not that it was particularly close. There were only 560 write-in votes, of which Ortiz got the most. The winner got over 72,000 votes.  But it’s a pretty good showing for a guy who doesn’t play any defense.

Probably could do a better job than the two clowns err I mean politicians that were actually running.

Toronto could be needing a new mayor soon and the Jays could always use another left hand bat too!

The Pirate Party is a very serious party with Members in the European Parliament.

MVP of the World Series, third place in the mayoral election, on the cover of Sports Illustrated and appearances on Letterman and the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. He’s still hitting at an unbelievable pace.

So, wait, was Fred Hoiberg really a mayor or was that just his nickname?

    • 22yearsagotoday - Nov 7, 2013 at 7:51 PM

      Is chacochicken related to stonkeechicken?

Meanwhile, the new mayor of New York City is a Red Sox fan.

    • happytwinsfan - Nov 7, 2013 at 5:36 PM

      the damn super liberal

      • 22yearsagotoday - Nov 7, 2013 at 7:52 PM

        Two words: Al Franken.

  7. sumerduckman - Nov 7, 2013 at 5:36 PM

He could have easily won the governors race in Virginia.

    • nothanksimdriving123 - Nov 7, 2013 at 6:18 PM

I think Bryce Harper, Ryan Zimmerman or Stephen Strasburg would have had a better chance. Indeed, pretty much anyone not named Cuccinelli would have fared pretty well.

  8. cur68 - Nov 7, 2013 at 7:53 PM

Like any politician, we must ask: to whom does David Ortiz appeal to?

Well, lets see: in order I think we have..
    1)Boston Red Sox Fans
2)Middle aged and nearing middle aged chubby d00dz with facial hair
3)chicks that like middle aged chubby d00dz with facial hair

If we add the caveat that this is a demographic that is likely to be a voter, then I think that we can sum up those 560 votes as: Boston Red Sox Frans, mostly women, who like chubby middle aged d00dz with facial hair.

Your loyal and loving constituents await you, Mr. Oritz!

    And the recount is when?

  11. righthandofjustice - Nov 7, 2013 at 8:22 PM

Isn’t it an irony the 2nd runner up of the Boston mayor voting is the same guy who most people said should be banned a few months ago when the Biogenesis witch hunt was in progress?

I guess the World Freaking Champions title just made everybody in the city ignored bad things they used to remember.

Will it be a joke when the third place finisher of the Boston mayor voting get rejected for HOF consideration later?

I don’t think this is terrible or anything; I just don’t get it. If this was the most important race on the ballot and you don’t like any of the candidates whose names appear on it, why do you even take the time to show up and vote? Seriously, people took time out of their days to visit a voting station and cast a ballot for David Ortiz to be Mayor of Boston. Must have been some serious down ballot contests to bring these folks out.
