The Twins are checking Johan Santana’s medicals

Is a reunion in the offing? LaVelle Neal of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that the Twins are “one of several teams” that have asked to look at Johan Santana‘s medical information.

Santana is a risk given multiple major shoulder injuries and surgeries. But he’s apparently an intriguing one as several teams are said to have checked in on the 34 year-old lefty who hasn’t pitched since 2012.  For what it’s worth, Santana is throwing on flat ground from 90 feet and “feeling good,” according to his agent.

Not that we’d expect an agent to say “yeah, he’s pretty shaky. Kinda touch and go, to be honest.”

santana publicly complained in his last year here that he felt the twins were failing to get and keep the right veterans to take the team to the next level – if i remember right after they traded castillo or somebody. wonder if he still feels that way.

Don’t understand why he’d go to a rebuilding team that held him for auction after he expressed frustration with them letting go of other quality players for an incentive laden deal instead of hanging it up. He wouldn’t likely be able to build on his resume towards a possible HOF induction by being a mop up pitcher on a team, that in all likelyhood would have another inept offense.

I would rather have Santana take the mound five seconds after getting bodyslammed on his left shoulder than most of the pitchers on Minnesota’s roster.

Well, this is an interesting juxtaposition:

During his interview for the Twins Daily Offseason Handbook, Ryan flinched at the thought of signing 30-year-old pitchers, stating that those over that age have a tendency to break down.
