Phillies sign Shawn Camp

Adding a little middle relief depth, the Phillies have signed right-hander Shawn Camp to a minor-league deal, according to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com.

Camp was awful for the Cubs this year and at age 38 he might be finished, but he did post a 3.59 ERA in a league-leading 80 appearances in 2012 and had a combined 3.56 ERA in 296 innings from 2009-2012.

He’ll compete for a bullpen spot in spring training, so it’s a no-risk addition for Philly.

The Phillies will also be holding open tryouts for anyone born before January 1st 1980 as well.

And this is why I am not renewing my season tickets. Thanks RAJ.

It’s just a minor league deal, guys.

But why do it in the first place? The last thing the Phils need is a 38 year old in their minor system. Try building up the young players so we can get younger instead of finding older guys. Hell I hear they might look into signing Pedro Martinez again! (joking)

I heard that Ruben tried to dig up Cy Young from his grave. (Not joking)

I think it’s official. The Phillies don’t have a clue as to what they’re doing. We’re old enough as it is so the first two signings are a 38 year old pitcher who’s washed up and a 35 year old flunky of ours from years ago. Way to get younger Ruben!

      Stop whining!

    Holly Crap RAJ!!!

It’s like he is trying to make a 2014 version of the 93 team.

Why? Because you have a guy that can help at Triple A and possibly with the Phils if needed. Relievers are a year to year proposition. Why not have a guy who could possibly be on that good year. Not having guys like this has cost them the last 2 years when they’re throwing guys out there as fill ins in big spots who haven’t been to the majors and probably never should.

So the Phil’s are more worried about having a good AAA team instead of a good Pro Team?

Low risk, medium reward. Not gonna say I love this signing, but it’s about the only thing RAJ hasn’t completely screwed the pooch on recently.

It’s also really really embarrassing that we are resorting to looking at neutral actions by Amaro as positives…
