WWE will give championship belts to Cy Young Award winners

Nov 14, 2013, 7:31 PM EDT

After the Tigers’ Max Scherzer and the Dodgers’ Clayton Kershaw were announced as Cy Young Award winners in their respective leagues last night, MLB tweeted out renderings of WWE (World Wresting Entertainment) title belts for each pitcher. It was a neat idea more than anything else, but the WWE will soon give them actual title belts in recognition of their outstanding seasons.

No word on whether Scherzer and Kershaw will have to defend their titles at an upcoming Pay Per View event.

      Nope. Hedberg.

        I suck.

        I recognize that.

And now I’m remembering not going to see Mitch with Stephen Lynch opening for him because they were coming back 2 months later and Mitch died in the interim.

And now I’m more sad about that than being wrong. :(

Vince McMahon is certainly no dummy. And if the WWE knows anything, it’s public relations and marketing. Way to step up and grab a great opportunity for some pretty cool PR. Maybe next year they can turn this into a tradition, add some fanfare and really get some cheap cross promotion going on.

looks like dimitri martin stole a joke:

    Mitch Hedberg on Flyers:
Whenever I walk people try and hand me a flyer. And when someone tries to hand me out a flyer, it’s kinda like they’re saying, “Here, you throw this away.”

Triple H sez the ballots were counted too quickly, so both titles will be held in abeyance.

Don’t charge the mound next year against these guys or you’re gonna take a belt to the face! I love this!

I think it’s slightly less ugly than that Triple Crown they gave Miggy last year.

Kershawmania’s runnin wild brother. But remember to be the Scherzer, you gotta beat the Scherzer.

More surprising Randy Savage fun fact: that he played a few seasons of minor league ball, or that his real name was Randy Mario Poffo?

    • mortalkondek - Nov 15, 2013 at 8:35 AM

Leaping Lanny Poffo (aka The genius) was his brother.

      Great move by WWE!

Yet Bad News Brown nor Mr. Perfect could never get one. Damn McMahon.

I’ve personally always felt as though more sports should have a championship belt.

  16. robmoore - Nov 15, 2013 at 10:19 AM

They missed an opportunity here. They should give MVP belts, and then Mike Trout could run in and hit Miguel Cabrera over the head with a folding chair…
