Yesterday I got a cryptic press release about an announcement in Houston. Today the announcement: Minute Maid Park will host the 2014 Civil Right Game.

The Civil Rights Game will be played between the Astros and the Baltimore Orioles on May 30, 2014, airing nationally on MLB Network. There are other activities too, like an awards luncheon, roundtable discussions and youth sports events. The Civil Rights game began as an exhibition game in 2007. Now it’s a full-fledged thing with a week’s worth of activities.

If MLB really wanted to promote the Civil Rights Game wouldn’t they have chosen any team other than the Astros to be in it? It’s a break for the Astros because this will be their only nationally televised game all season.

Player: “Alex, I’ll take useless press releases for 500″
    Alex: “Houston Astros – November 19th, 2013″
Player: “Who are the Houston Astros?”

I feel certain that events will include a concert by a diverse collection of musical groups like Soundgarden, Alice in Chains and favorite son Willie Nelson.

And maybe Hank Williams Jr. will MC the event

Isn’t that promo poster a little racist?

Why? You would prefer that the hands all be 1 color instead maybe?

ha….I can see what you mean, as if all the races are fighting for the bat or trying to be on top lol

What a stupid concept. Do we really need a civil rights game in 2014. They are all just multimillionaires to me (well maybe not the Astros players) but most other mlb players.
