Matt Cerrone of Metsblog is reporting that the Mets have had internal discussions about pursuing Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun, per people connected to the team.

Recently, Brewers GM Doug Melvin said that the two teams would make a good match as trading partners. The Mets are looking to move first baseman Ike Davis and the Brewers were reportedly willing to move outfielder Norichika Aoki. Cerrone, however, writes that the Brewers are more likely to trade Braun than Aoki.

Braun has two years and $22 million remaining on an eight-year, $45 million extension signed in May 2008. In 2016, his new extension kicks in, paying him $105 million through 2020. Aoki, meanwhile, will earn $1.95 million in 2014 before becoming a free agent.

This is great news for the NL East! I didn’t think it was possible for the Mets to continue to make bad decisions but apparently you can’t put anything past these guys! Melvin thinks they make great trade partners, hilarious. I’ve got swamp land to sell, guess I should call the Mets.

Oh Offseason, you stop it. You just stop it right now, you silly goose you.

    Did they re-hire Kirk Radomski?

Did I miss the sentence where the Mets “discussed trading for Ryan Braun” all I read was a writer making an observation that Brauns extension kicks in soon. .. nice headline that should stir the poop real good.

Ohboy, the bottomfeeders of the Nyorcan press would have a field day with Braun if it should turn out that one-man Tunguska meteoroid (which is meant as a portmaneau of meteor and hemorrhoid) A-roid self destructs as completely as he looks like he intends to. They need someone to kick around, and who better than Braun? I want to commend the Mutts’ front orifice for their apparent environmental concerns. Clearly, they have dedicated themselves to feeding the sharks.

I will gladly take him. He’s still a good player.

Like it or not Braun is still the face of the Brewers franchise. it would be extremely foolish for them to trade Braun.

Meh, he’s the face if he’s still around. People always get over these things. His screwed up image would only make it easier. I would be disappointed if we lost him for a catching prospect that’s made of glass though. Or a 1st basemen that can’t hit. Maybe the Mets aren’t the trade partners were looking for.

my rabid packer fan cousins, and occasional brew crew fans, want his lying ass out of dodge. sending him to the evil mutant east coast where all previous is to be forgotten would be win win for both the mutts and cheese head land.

      • muskyhunter2542 - Nov 22, 2013 at 10:22 AM

Hell no. This would not be a win for The Brewers. They are a franchise that needs a clean Ryan Braun to play like he did when he was doping to win anything.

….but they have “sticker shock” over free agents?

  13. tfbuckfutter - Nov 20, 2013 at 9:27 PM

    Jesus Christ.

If you want to get out of the Yankees shadow you can’t trade for Alex Rodriguez Jr.

You have to sign Barry Bonds, the godfather of it all.

Stupid rumor. No way the Brewers trade Braun + money for Ike Davis. Braun is still valuable. His contract is much better than the one the Rangers just traded for. No one would be willing to give up the type of prospects Brewers would need to sell low on Braun. The Seligs no longer run the Brewers, thankfully.

This is exactly the sort of move the Mets could be expected to make. They’re broke. They’re in the market for old players looking to reestablish themselves, guys coming of injury trying to reestablish themselves, and guys coming off scandal looking to reestablish themselves. Those are the only players the Mets can go for, guys they can get cheap. That being said, Braun is owed $127 million of the next 7 years, and not only is that too much money for the Mets (they couldn’t afford $2.5 million for Scott Hairston a year ago or $16 for Marlon Byrd this year), nobody, absolutely NOBODY, can tell me he’s this good a player without the juice.

LMAO he wouldnt last a year with this NY media if he pulled those lies here he wouldve buckled under pressure hes not like Arod who looks like he doesnt give an f

If they trade Braun – and I’m of the mind that they might – more than likely, it’d be to AL team, and they’d most likely want young corner infielders with power and a power arm, or two. I’m convinced Braun can hit, juice or no juice….but it seems as though he burned some bridges in the clubhouse.

Now, it would be funny if he ended up in Arizona…..
