Report: the Twins are close to a “major free agent signing”

Nov 27, 2013, 5:35 PM EDT

Tim Dierkes of MLB Trade Rumors is hearing some buzz:

It’d be somewhat surprising to see the Twins sign a “major” free agent, as they have not been in the deep end of the free agent pool for a few years. But as Dierkes notes, the Twins have been linked to several free agent pitchers in recent days, including Matt Garza, Bronson Arroyo and Ricky Nolasco. There was also a report linking them and Jarrod Saltalamacchia, who would make sense now that Joe Mauer has been moved to first base.

Because it’s the Twins, my money would be on a soft-tossing righty. They love soft-tossing righties.

    Supposedly it’s Ricky Nolasco.

… and your new sift tossing righty is…wait for it….Ricky Nolasco!!!

Did they finally find a replacement for Jim Thome?

    Travis Hafner perhaps?

“Major” relative to the Twins organization, or “major” relative to the rest of baseball?

I think it was a typo, it was supposed to say “major league free agent”, as opposed to their more common signings of minor league free agents.

Ricky Nolasco is going to the Twins. This might be Hardball talk but it’s very slow ball talk.

    Gonna be Nolasco or Santana.

  7. dcfan999 - Nov 27, 2013 at 5:51 PM

    Ricky nolasco is the signing

  8. chacochicken - Nov 27, 2013 at 5:52 PM

So with Ricky locked up they only need 4 more starters.

    • tfbuckfutter - Nov 27, 2013 at 6:22 PM

      Or….you know….5 more good ones.

      • chacochicken - Nov 27, 2013 at 6:33 PM

I suspect we’ll be hearing or reading a lot of Minnesota referring to Nolasco as the Twins “ace”. I am just glad they are still in the major leagues.

Nolasco is at his best a #3 starter. In the NL none the less, though playing in the central isnt a bad choice. I still see him having trouble posting anything under 4 era. If this was their big signing, they’re in trouble. They might as well opened the bank for Garza or Arroyo for what Nolasco was asking for. SMH

    It’s Ricky Nolasco.

The Twins got their stadium so now they have the license to suck! Maybe a hundred losses this year?
