Nelson Cruz’s agent met with the Orioles today

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports that the Orioles met with Nelson Cruz‘s agent today.

It’s been all quiet on the Nelson Cruz front for a week or two, with the last rumors about him involving the Rangers and the Mariners. It’s possible that the cool interest is a function of his reported $75 million asking price.

Or it could be that a guy with very limited defensive value and a mostly one-dimensional offensive attack and a PED suspension in his rear-view mirror who, because he was given a qualifying offer by Texas, will cost whoever signs him a first round draft pick is not the hottest of properties regardless.

(Walking into room to speak with Cruz)
“We’re really into Francisco Peguero, think he can do a lot for our team this year … who are you again?” -DD

He will probably have to wait until the pretty girls have all been picked up and the remaining boys get drunker. Eventually though he will become attractive enough for someone to take home.

A 33 year old PED user who would cost a first round pick? Not even if he was free. Get away from my team.

Cruz, it’s getting late. Time to call Arte Moreno, who signed Gary Matthews from us and gave him $50 million for basically nothing, gave Hamilton $125 million for a total flopping disaster. gave CJ Wilson $75 million to be 4th starter type and cry a lot, so you would fit right in with the Angels, former Ranger looking for a rest home. Take care my friend, and did you get a share of the Cardinals WS share for butchering that fly ball? Thought so.

Let someone else make that mistake.
