It was reported last month that Justin Masterson was open to a long-term deal with the Indians, but FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal hears that the team is willing to listen to trade offers.

Masterson is just one year away from free agency, so the Indians would prefer pieces that they can control for the long-term. The 28-year-old right-hander earned $5.6875 million this past season while posting a 3.45 ERA and 195/76 K/BB ratio over 193 innings. He’s due another raise in arbitration this winter and could be poised for a big-money contract next offseason if he remains healthy and effective in 2014.

The Indians’ rotation could have a very different look next year, as Scott Kazmir has already left for a two-year, $22 million contract with the Athletics while Ubaldo Jimenez is expected to receive one of the biggest contracts among free agent starters.

Bet the price tag is about the same as David price, even tho he’s not as good as price is

in what world are you seeing Masterson have the same value as David Price?

      • largebill - Dec 10, 2013 at 8:08 AM

That is not what he said. He said their asking price would be about the same. He even went on to say “he’s not as good as Price.”

I wonder if this will lower the value the Rays will be offered for Price. “why should I trade so much for Price when I can get Masterson for less?”

Because Price is much better and has twice as many years of control. Mercedes doesn’t lower their prices because you can buy a used Ford.

Tribe needs to go out and get some pitching. The only move they’ve made is David Murphy…woooooo?

A Dom Brown for Masterson deal should be something RAJ presents if he is dangling Brown at the Winter Meetings.

Indians have enough Outfielders, we lost Kaz and are losing Ubaldo and Bauer wasn’t very good in majors so it’s time to start adding pitching I hope we keep Masterson like him in the clubhouse and shows up in big games he’s a good #2 or #3 where the Indians have been using him as an ace not fair to him

  6. stex52 - Dec 10, 2013 at 8:49 AM

The market for #2/#3 pitchers sure is high this year.

Players are high this year period–most just aren’t worth what they are asking AND what they are getting–I would be very very careful–Even Wilson of the Dodgers might have cost too much and I like him–I think Tanaka will cost too much also-The same for Price
