Now that the Diamondbacks have found their coveted power bat in Mark Trumbo, the club’s offseason focus has shifted to starting pitching.

David Price of the Rays, Chris Sale of the White Sox and Jeff Samardzija of the Cubs are some of the names that have been frequently suggested, but ESPN’s Buster Olney says the Snakes are also “talking about” the Indians’ Justin Masterson.

Masterson finished the 2013 season with a superb 3.45 ERA and he fanned 195 batters in 193 innings. Control is still an issue for the big 28-year-old, but he’s durable and boasts top-end-starter potential.

Masterson is arbitration-eligible for the final time this winter. He can become a free agent next winter.

“Mortal Kombat for Sega Genesis is the best game ever.”

“I disagree; it’s a very good game, but I think Donkey Kong is the best game ever.”

        “Donkey Kong sucks!”

        “You know somethin’? YOU suck.”

Didn’t he get injured towards the end of the year and came back and they had him in the bullpen? Just saying a bit of an injury risk, right? (this was after reading durable et al in the story)

He had a strained oblique. He was in the pen because they didn’t have time to build back innings. About as durable a pitcher as you’ll find.

As a tribe fan I’ll be bummed to see Masterson go Indians tried to make him and ace when in reality he’s a 2 or 3 but always stepped up when he was needed Masty fan for life.

D-Backs are not a good fit though, especially since they traded Tyler Skaggs earlier, unless they want to give us Paul Goldschmidt, which I know what happened. Masterson is staying, and Indians are better with him anyway than without. If they deal him, it has to make sense, and this does not.
