Andrew McCutchen proposed to his girlfriend on “Ellen”

Dec 11, 2013, 12:16 PM EDT

Well, now we know why NL MVP Andrew McCutchen spent so much time getting his hair done before going on Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show: He proposed to his girlfriend in front of the live “Ellen” audience.

I want to do this some day too, except on “Chopped.”

If he played for a big-market team, people would be getting tired of the McCutchen overexposure.

      What overexposure?

      • sportsfan18 - Dec 11, 2013 at 12:26 PM

        IF… people WOULD…

the previous poster’s WHOLE comment was that there was NOT over exposure.

      • churchoftheperpetuallyoutraged - Dec 11, 2013 at 12:44 PM

Except that’s not what he’s saying. He’s saying that if he played for a more well known team, then the press McCutcheon has received would be considered overexposure. Granted I should have worded it differently, but outside of the Ellen show, what has the press written/shown of Cutch?

The list of articles on him by HBT were the Ellen show, then 11/14/13 winning MVP, then 9/30/13 about getting hit by a batted ball during practice. 3 articles in 3 months = overexposure?

      • hittfamily - Dec 11, 2013 at 1:04 PM

It’s not just that though. When he’s noton Ellen, he’s anchoring “The View”.

      • hittfamily - Dec 11, 2013 at 2:04 PM

And he was in Cool Runnings.

        “Eh Sanka, you dead mon”
        “Ya mon”

    • dcfan4life - Dec 11, 2013 at 12:33 PM

The hell are you talking about? Overexposure? He could walk down most streets and not get recognized. Name a commercial, movie hes been in, or even a product hes pushing. I mean seriously, cmon.

      • jm91rs - Dec 11, 2013 at 12:56 PM

I’m not going to argue for or against over exposure since that definition would be different for everyone’s tastes, but you’re delusional if you think he’d walk down the streets unrecognized. He’s probably one of the 5-10 most recognizable MLB stars, he’s not walking down any street without someone whispering to themselves “that’s andrew freaking mccutchen”. His face is on the cover of video games and magazines, and obviously dominates highlight reels. He’s a star and anyone with any business sense would put that smile on any product that he’ll allow them to. In his case he seems to be a likable guy that might not be trying to show off everywhere, but he’s definitely a popular figure for all of the right reasons.

      • babyfarkmcgeezax - Dec 11, 2013 at 1:16 PM

McCutchen has said that people in Pittsburgh still sometimes mistake him for Larry Fitzgerald

      • ryanrockzzz - Dec 11, 2013 at 2:48 PM

Because being on the cover a sports video game that sold tons of copies isn’t exposure. Overexposure hasn’t happend yet, but the dude did just win MVP, so it may be coming. He seems nice enough, so it won’t bother me any.

But seriously, he has some endorsements. (Evo Shield is another)

Lovable hambone and overall great guy. And I’m not even a Bucco fan.

And good stories about good people NEED overexposure in our downbeat society.
