The Rays are interested in Juan Uribe as a first baseman

Dec 13, 2013, 3:03 PM EDT

Add another team to the White Sox and Dodgers in the Juan Uribe derby:

This is better than being interested in Mark Reynolds for first base inmasuch as Uribe can do a couple of useful things. But this is still kind of weird to me. The Rays have also been linked to Ike Davis as well.

Uribe had been reported as wanting a three-year deal. But so far he’s got a one year plus an option offer from Los Angeles and two years from Chicago. It’s be hard to imagine the Rays going three years or even two for that matter, but at this point it feels like maybe waiting Uribe out will bring the desired results.

Rays’ stance on Uribe is no doubt “If we can’t sign Loney…”

…or maybe “put some pressure on Loney to take the offer”.

Hey if the Rays are bumb enough to put Uribe at first maybe
the Dodgers can put Loney at third

If a team outbids the Dodgers, they overpaid.
If your team got outbid by the Rays, they underbid.
If the Rays outbid the Dodgers….
    Pooosshhh. Mind Blown.

Ursine wants a three-year deal…well his last one worked out really well, didn’t it?

Well, for HIM it did. Some people are money players, and some people are contract year players.

    “Ursine?” I hate you, auto-correct…..

Uribe parlayed a huge ’10 postseason into a big three-year contract with LA, and though he hit decent enough in the second half of the final year, he was a huge bust. That said, he played one heck of a 3B, and if he had hit well enough to be the starter all year he probably would have won a Gold Glove last year. So I don’t understand why a team would sign him to play anywhere other than 3B.
