Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports that the Dodgers are close to re-igning left-hander J.P. Howell to a multi-year contract.

Howell was said to be talking to the Rockies last week before Colorado decided to sign fellow southpaw reliever Boone Logan to a three-year, $15 million contract.

Despite throwing in the high-80s with his fastball Howell has consistently been excellent in setup roles, including posting a 2.03 ERA and 54/23 K/BB ratio in 62 innings for the Dodgers this year at age 30.
